Every single one of my Rush friends give me grief every time I bring this up. 

 

When I'm listening to Rush on Alexa, and this song comes on, it's an immediate skip.

 

If I'm in the car, I get an alert that Rush is being played, and it's this song, the station I tuned into is immediately off and tuned to another station.

 

It's nails on a chalkboard.

It goes without saying that for me the most iconic decade of awful music was the 1980's - I don't hate everything 1980's, and actually I love quite a bit of it, but the driving force in the center of the 80's pop-music scene was a relentless choad... that decade was absolutely relentless with terrible music... BUT there's terrible pop songs to be had from producers, performers and cultures far and wide, so please find that one song buried in the craw of your last functioning brain-wave if you dare.  

 

I'd like to nominate Simple Minds for your consideration for worst Pop Song of All Time, with their original, 'All the Things She Said'.

 

It blends a certain, 'I don't care about any of these lyrics, but I suppose they must mean something' with immediate refrain gratification followed up by vapid soothing and a complete smothering into the dust of pointlessness at the end.    Excellent hit material, Simple Minds.
 

 

i really like the “no Paul McCartney” rule because I was just lining up McCartney videos to post, which I think would probably cause the board to crash in disgust. 
 

I will throw this out there. I never understood why people liked this song when it came out. (Do people like it?)

I Love Cecile by the GoGos sucks.  Awful song.  I guess they deserve some credit for coming out so publicly at a time when that wasn’t so easy……but the song sucks.

DDT was banned in the 70s. 
 

Joni Mitchell wrote the song for teenagers in the 70s. Not sure why Counting Crows wanted to ignore that fact.
 

The rhyming of “swing” and “away” is particularly egregious. Not to mention that if you can hear your screen door swing you need to repair that *****.

honorable mention to this little ditty. I didn''t buy it then and I certainly don't now.  Her voice on this track is nails on a chalk board. too cutesy. Gaaah inducing  for sure

 

 

 

 

 and in third place this other lil pop star I never could understand the appeal. I guess girls in pigtails do anything  for me. Again the voice Sucks here too  IMO LOL

I actually have a soft spot for this song, as it was on a 1985 Billboard CD I used to listen to.

 

Plus, my college marching band would play a cheese ball version of it, which was both funny and ultimately catchy.

For J. Geils, it was 'Centerfold'.

 

So my In-laws used to own and run a  fast food restaurant in a small town, back in the 70s through 90s.  Hamburgers, pulled pork, deep fried veggies, soft serve ice cream, if you've been in a small town in that time frame, you know.  For the sit down inside guests, they had those little jukeboxes on each table.

My late MIL was a Lady of the old-school rural style - could milk 4 cows and 2 goats before breakfast, vaccinate a dozen feeder pigs, do beautiful crewel work and cross stitch, get the restaurant suppliers to "fly right", and individually greet 300 different customers with personal enquiries before going to church on Sunday in an impeccable outfit with a fetching hat.  A kind and generous woman and a sweetheart, but if you go to mess with her, get up early or she'll make you feel un-punctual.

 

There was a guy whose job it was to drive around setting up the restaurant and bar jukeboxes with a mixture of old faves and the latest hits.  One fine day he loaded "Centerfold" on the units in the ILs restaurant.

 

My mother in law called and had "a little word" with him.  I think he set a land speed record getting  back there to take it off, breaking the previous land speed record he'd set in 1974 after he cued up "The B word is Back".  If the police had stopped him, they would probably have provided a siren escort.
