If he wants to end his career on a cheap contract in Buffalo because he's a Bills fan, then I'm all for it.  He had 6 sacks last year.  The only Bill with more was Groot.  Could be good in rotation.

Yeah, agree. He was in a rotational role last year. 60% of the snaps so he’d fit right in.

Better part is only the season before he was insanely productive for his age; 17 sacks, 74 tackles & 21 TFL’s with 5 FF.

Enough to give him an extension?

No …but he is still contracted here next year so he doesn’t require one …

I expect him back next season …

And we need to free Cap Space.

Do we?  I thought that's what the purge last offseason was all about?  I mean we could always use more space, and want to use it efficiently, but I thought we were heading into the new league year in a relatively healthy cap situation.  (and that's with the understanding and agreement that Von is gone).

I thought the 2nd year was a void year and we save like $4M if we cut him

The purge was because we were 54 million over the cap before it.

According to Spotrac, we're 1.5 million over the cap right now. And that includes factoring in a Salary Cap bump to 277 million.

He signed for two years …

I think he is on a reasonable deal for his level of play …although I hoped he would have been better this year….

Im leaning towards not bringing back in 2026 though ….

Bummer.  I thought the late purge of Stef was made with an eye to eat it now, and the space that would've been used up next year was instead going to be freed up.  Not to mention the sure to come Allen deal.  Oh well, I'm certainly no capologist.  I'm sure Beane will figure it out.

We got out of cap hell with the purge to get to a place we could function daily. Last year (or two) Beane has had an issue with end of season moves because of restricted cap.

Biggest problem? Upcoming free agents. Per Sportrac next season should be decent on FA’s - Rasul, Ty Johnson, Alex Anderson.  Also Smoot and Hollins (both shouldn’t break the bank).  Few others that would be year to year or find someone else.

2026 is going to be a tough year as Epenesa, Rousseau, Cook, Bernard, Shakir, Benford are all due. Epenesa could be gone. Rousseau will be big bucks. Bernard will be huge money.  Shakir and Benford will most likely be big bucks also. Cook may be expendable if we keep Ty with Davis and Gore getting more carries.

2026 isn’t doom and gloom. Cap purge was a way to deal with it. Cap will go up next few years, and Beane can structure 2026 contracts to kick the can so to speak.

Another Problem? Josh’s contract will most likely need to be dealt with for cap relief and larger numbers.  Although not sure how you do both?

That being said, Beane will be judicious about giving contracts to league free agents. Khalil Mack is a good player but will he want to give him a large contract at the expense of keeping his own? Especially a guy at the end of his career with the possibility of production drop off? Personally, I don’t think he would.

Wouldn't Von's money become available?

I looked if Vin retired yes.  But still some gets rolled over but not as much.  Has to due with the original contract terms
