Wow!  Very surprising to see so many 100 sections available.  Yeeesh.  I'd be embarrassed if I was a KC fan.

Owners need to think long and hard about how current technology and stadium pricing across the board makes staying home to watch the game a very attractive option. I'm not sure how some teams without a tailgating culture even consistently sell out - that seems to be the one benefit to regularly attending in person.

the tickets coming from the chiefs aren't face value. they price them in line with whatever the re-sale market is. there's seats in club level for over $1500, others for over $2000. there's lower levels being priced as high as $1600. there are various upper level corners for $450. "dynamic pricing" or whatever you call it. 

 

some stadiums (including buffalo) are now listing their tickets as all-in price, which is a good move. an additional good move would be to show the actual face value of each seat. when you click ticketmaster and see blue seats offered directly from the chiefs, you would assume that's the face value of the ticket. but that isn't the case. that's their jacked-up price to ensure they get the same amount as the re-seller who has seats in the same/similar locations. people think they're getting a deal when in reality they're getting smoked.

 

prices should fall closer to game day.

Flight prices were very high.  We entertained going but it’s too much for 3 people.

Probably fatigue from hosting so many playoff games. This is the 6th AFC title game they've hosted in 7 years. 

 

Maybe they expect to win this game and are waiting to spend money on SB tickets. 

 

You would expect it still to be sold out though. They averaged 73k during the season.

our daughter's friend and their family decided to go over the last day or two.  i was told they spent $300-400 on tickets, (there are 4 of them) and the flights were about $800 a seat.  I assume they're flying out of rochester, but possibly buffalo.

Cleveland would have probably gave them the best prices...going on a cruise leaving out of Miami on Winter Break and the airline ticket price difference between Buffalo and Cleveland was almost 1500 dollars...ridiculous. And the flights from Cleveland are direct, the Buffalo ones would have had a stop in BWI.

from us though it's about a 4 hour drive.  there's just no easy way to get to kc from our area.  they do have a lot of random direct or easy flight to the south east this time of year.  toronto would likely be the other option.

what was strange is that my wife was questioning me as to why i'm not going.  knowing that, if the bills win, i may look into going to the super bowl.  it will cost, but i'm much more willing to throw money at that than an away afc championship game.

just checked chiefs ticketmaster. here's the lowest current prices per ticket (all include taxes/fees):

between the 40s: $1200

30-40 yd line: $900

goal line-30 yd line (avg): $775

corners: $600

end zone: $535

 

club

 

between the 40s: $2000+

30-40 yd line: $1750

goal line-30 yd line (avg): $1600

corners: $1250

endzone: $1050

 

uppers

 

you can find seats as low as $330. but these are mostly confined to corners in the upper rows and arrowhead is a huge stadium (4th largest capacity in the nfl) so those are not great seats. for low-row uppers in good locations you're likely spending above $500/seat.

~800 is what I spend to get from NY back to Hawaii. I would never spend that much to go Missouri in the winter...

i'm not sure if it has changed much, but rochester is/was one of the more expensive markets to fly out of because of the small size.  to spend $3200 on a family of 4 to go to missouri seem insane to me too.  if you book last minute with specific times, it gets pricey.

just checked rochester to kc.  for one adult ticket it starts at $750 and most are in the $880 range.  There are a number of tickets that go above 1 thousand, but $800-ish seems accurate.

I didn't know Rochester even had an airport..........are they still using the old bi-planes?
