Agree. Love his energy and toughness , but you know the Chiefs will be trying to bait him into a retaliation of some sort.

Helmet to helmet hits are not, in and of themselves, a penalty.

There's some situations where any head contact is an automatic penalty like a QB in the pocket or a defenseless player (IE a QB that's sliding).

If the player being hit is just a regular runner it can still be a penalty if the defender launches (leaving his feet) and/or leads with the crown of the helmet.

Josh was a regular runner on the play he was hit, and the defender didn't launch or lead with the crown so I think it's a good no-call.

USE OF THE HELMET

It is a foul if a player:

lowers his head and makes forcible contact with his helmet against an opponent; or

uses any part of his helmet or facemask to butt or make forcible contact to an opponent’s head or neck

These provisions do not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or the helmet in the course of a conventional tackle or block on an opponent.

Penalty: Loss of 15 yards. If the foul is by the defense, it is also an automatic first down. The player may be disqualified.

That's probably "leashed dog" syndrome.  He was going off a decent amount of time BECAUSE they had a leash on him.  If you can't get to someone because your coaches and teammates are holding you firmly back, you can yap a bit.

Ehh, I'm fine with it. Someone needs to set that tone and bring the juice. Love seeing our guys be more fired up and physical than the Ravens. That is saying something (good job, McD). We'll need it for the next 2 games. Especially against Philly.

So Mack's block on Humphrey wasnt really about the Josh hit.

A few plays prior to the block, Hollins caught a pass in the middle of the field and headed toward the sidelines. He took a "big" hit from Humphrey as he went out of bounds. One of those hits that happen in the snow/frozen field with bad footing. Probably a little late too. He popped right up, ready to fight, and luckily McD and others were there to pull him away.

Then Mack got his revenge a few plays later

That being said you can bet Josh was digging it that his guy was that fired up to deliver a little punishment to the opposition .

Hollins is a throwback to the days when football was much nastier and tougher.  The rules to protect the players have had the effect of increasing safety which of course is great, but they've also led to a different mentality.  Hollins would have fit right in on the 85 Bears team, and that's meant as high praise.

Didn't Hollins recently say something like "You want the rock, you gotta block"? I like that mentality.

Or maybe a poster here said it...LOL.

I think it's pretty clear he didn't lower his head and it was not forcible contact. Therefore it's not a penalty

Wow on Humprey quote - just goes to show one can make it to the top of the game while lacking in intestinal fortitude.

Why wouldn't he and his team just beat them, if important?  Can't imagine Michael Jordan saying something like that.

I thought the same thing during the game. Assuming a fine will be forthcoming from the NFL. He totally led with his helmet going up high with a targeted blow to Josh’s head.

Wasn’t Baltimore the same team that had a player punching Josh in the head multiple teams during a QB sneak in the regular season?

My first thought upon reading the title was, why does anyone care that Marlon Humphrey is getting a head shot? Maybe he going into acting ot announcing.

I love what Hollins has done for the Bills. I did think maybe he needed to sit for a play when he was getting hyped on the field. I was worried a dumb penalty would pop up because he was all juiced.

I was so worried about this too! They've really chilled with the unsportsmanlike penalties they were letting fly a few years ago. It doesn't hurt that its now the playoffs, we all saw his step over against Denver, thought he could of got one on some of his catches as well...

I never disliked him.  At the time they signed him, I thought he was a solid, replacement-level signing, but he's definitely proven to be much more than that.

I didn’t hear much on the broadcast, but it looked to me like Humphrey intentionally went at Josh’s head on an early QB keeper.
Hollins then absolutely demolished him later in the game on a downfield block that I think knocked him out of the game.

Coincidence??

With Mack Hollins there’s no chance. He saw Humphrey do it and took a note and blasted his ass later with a revenge hit.

Absolutely NOT a coincidence. Hollins is THAT dude. The one who will take care of the "payback" when the opportunity presents itself.

Early on i thought the "fans are gunna love this guy" stuff was all about how quirky he is --o-m-g shoes give you cancer-- silly camp fodder, easy light hearted story for reporters to write about type.  DAMN AM I GLAD TO BE WRONG!!!

I think what throws me off the most is his kinda hippy'ish vibe-- and then is just an absolutely diabolical menace on the field.  Side note: anybody who saw video of him walking in to this last game.... dude is packing a straight baby arm LOL  legend has it the equipment manager had to specially fit 'him' with a shin guard as a cup.
