Van Noy - "I've never seen them (Bills) do this as conservative they played"

Listening from the enemy side gives you more insight, especially from a guy like Van Noy who has played in AFC East against the Bills for a long time.

 

"That was the most coservative Bills team I've played against." He went on saying he does not believe that's because of talent issue.

 

I remember someone else mentioned no turnovers ,1 sack, 1 penalty, almost no negative plays. Is this the new playoff formula McDermott is subscribing to now? Maybe it explain why no more throwing the ball all over the yard where wide receivers getting little receving action. Does Allen and WRs all buy into it? I guess we will see how it goes.

It was virtually the same gameplan we used to almost beat Kansas City last year in the playoffs with half our starting defense out and giving up almost 10 yards a play to them on offense.

They were playing 2 deep. You run the ball and hit underneath. We ran all over them for 3 quarters.

The conservative offence worries me a bit. It kind of reminds me of the first 6 or so games of the season.

 

Against KC, going to have to open it up more and put the game in your superstar QBs hands

Seems like we surprised the two best run defenses in a row with how successful we were running the ball on them.  KC is gonna have to find a way to slow it down 

 

they bounced back pretty well the second half of the playoff game last year on defense but I think we’ve improved since then

Exactly.  It worked against Baltimore but they'll have to be more aggressive against KC because KC is KC.

When’s the last time the Chiefs were the ones to make game killing mistakes that cost them a playoff game? hasn’t been lately as they’ve won a record 8 straight (without missing the playoffs).  They are the masters of limiting mistakes and doing anything they need to do, to win, even by a point.  and they make all their FGs too which goes under the radar.

It’s not a conservative offense.  It’s a power ball control offense with quick strike ability and it should scare the crap out of anyone we play.  We can beat you by driving the running game down a team’s throat, but if they load the box we can throw it down the field.  The hard part for opponents is that they know the Bills will score 28-30 points regardless of the quality of the defense.  Therefore the question is can the opponent’s offense keep up.

Yup. I think we were mostly conservative because the Ravens never really slowed down our run, then McD played his usual way with a lead. It allowed us to be conservative. 
 

I think we are basically waiting (almost begging) for teams to stack the box so Josh can torch them but they won’t do it. It’s a good situation.

We can definitely open it up more, and I'd expect us to this weekend - but man, do I wish we had a true speed guy who could really stretch the field once in awhile.

It should be easier to run on the Chiefs than Baltimore.  You wouldn’t think so but the Ravens run defense is better and shut us down in the 2nd half.

This is two weeks in a row that the opponent was shocked that the Bills played a conservative ball control offense and that they were effective in doing so. Payton made some comments about how surprising it was to see the Bills run the ball as much as they did and how efficient they were at it against them

I would've liked to seen Johnson/Davis carrying the ball more against the Ravens. They run through contact a little better than Cook. Cook is more of a run to daylight type of RB. Nice 3 headed monster

Can we, though?  I hope so.  Be nice for Coleman and Cooper to make a play or two or more against KC.

? The first six games of this current season?

 

They scored  34, 31, 47, and 35 points in the first four games, victories,  of this season. Then, 10 and 20 in the two losses, of course.

 

So not sure what you mean by that statement, first 6 games. 

 

In any case, I am confident that the game plan against the bluebirds this past week will not be the same against the Chiefs, as far as the how conservative it will be.  But I would definitely be up for point totals like they had early in the season!

Bills actually need to lengthen, not shorten the game against the chiefs. A shootout allows the Bills to exploit their advantage in pass protection. With a ball control dunk and dunk fest, that advantage is wasted.

Theres context behind all those games and you cant just look at the points. (31 points against Miami, 3 turnovers, with one pick 6)

 

The jags one I would say that was the only one that they were aggressive .

Exactly right. The Chiefs need to figure out where an extra 7 points is gonna come from, either punt return or pick 6. We just need to do what we’ve been doing every week.

The Bills can and maybe should open it up a little more. But when you’ve got a great running and short passing game, keeping the ball and trying to control the game with your offense is a good game plan; especially when your defense is mediocre.
