My first thought is it is another saleh.

I think they needed more out of this hire.  Need experience and a culture/standards shift.  Similar to the Broncos and Payton.  Carroll might have been a good option.  Teach them how to be conpetitive.

Have they hired a GM yet?

I heard Rex was in the running for GM but it could be a rumor just have to wait and see .

Agreed in general, but there will be no culture shift no matter who they hire while Woody and Brick are still in the building.

I still think the Saleh / Douglas regime was on broadly the right path before the Rodgers decision. That decision absolutely torpedoed them. It was a disaster from minute one.

At the time the NYC media were reporting that both Saleh and Douglas wanted Carr but were overruled by Johnson to go all in to get Rodgers.

Carr would have been a better bet. Not that his stint in New Orleans has gone all that well, but he would not have put the young stars on that Jets roster in the shade the way Rodgers did and almost intimidated them out of what they had been doing. I'd have gone for Carr as a FA 2023 and then tried to find a way still to draft a guy from that decent class in 2024 even if that meant moving up some. I think they'd have won more games, be in a better spot now cap wise, I think the harmony of the roster would have been less disrupted and I think Saleh and Douglas might still have jobs.

The thing that none of us fans know is what kind of leader and culture builder a guy like Aaron Glenn is.

We can look just at the defensive production under his watch as coordinator, but it won't tell us much about his intangibles as a leader. If it IS at all instructive, it shows that the Lions defenders continue to play incredibly hard and didn't have any quit, unlike...some other teams.

In any case, while I am tempted to say "he's just another Robert Saleh", that's probably reductive and unfair because, again, I know nothing about the man as a leader.

At the end of the day, the Jets still have bad ownership and they still don't have a QB. Until one or both of those issues are rectified, I won't lose much sleep over them.

They would have been much, much better off trying the draft again.

I'd argue they took themselves off the right path by drafting Zach Wilson. He was so, so bad and affected the culture in that building because they kept starting because they had no other valid options which was a huge mistake which forced them into needing a QB in a year that the vet options sucked and they figured a draft pick would be a year or two so.. getting bent over by Green Bay with glee was the direction they chose. The way they handled that situation was insane too.. they started hiring Aaron's friends before they completed the trade which let Green Bay know that they could just wait and the Jets were always going to make that trade.

According to a player in Detroit, Alex Anzalone, he is on the same level as Dan Campbell. The players loved him and would run through a wall for him, so I think he may just be the guy to change the culture.

I'll add this quote, too, from today's Tyler Dunne article. I believe the quote is from an anonymous former Cowboys exec, and the person is speaking about the Cowboys. Still, I believe it applies to the Jets just as much:

“You almost have to change the entire organization. You’ll see when they start hiring new head coaches this year, they’re all going to have the press conference and they’re all going to talk about changing the culture, and they're all going to talk about playing hard and talk about playing physical, finishing and saying ‘accountability,’ and they’re going to use all the same words. And all those words are absolutely right. The problem is if the organization isn’t a good solid sound organization, you can change out the coaches all you want. There’s not going to be much of a chance.”

Zach was a bad pick, no doubt. But they were still on the right lines coming out of 2022. The team had played hard, been 7-4 at one point before it fell apart, and the young talent had showed out. They needed a Quarterback who was an adult in the room. What they got was a declining great who acts like a petulant child.

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure they said the same thing about Saleh when he was hired.

There are reports out of New York that Glenn wants to keep Rodgers but I can't imagine any OC candidate would want that.   If you have Rodgers you essentially have to run Rodgers' system.   The Jets had 5% fewer runs than the next lowest team this season.  I can't believe it is because the OC refused to call running plays.  Even if you try to run your system Rodgers will just audible out of it.

Every Coordinator is amazing at their job or else they would never get promoted.  The ones who succeed in a head coaching role are the ones who understand that you aren't the "doer", you are the one who delegates properly to get things done and then oversees and supports each group that is doing the work, much like a CEO would do and are responsible for decisions related to the direction of the team and many other non-football related items.  Most new head coaches are shocked at how much of their job is dealing with non-football related things.

This is also god news! They really needed and offensive minded HC to run that team. The Defensive HC's  dont quite cut it, unless they grab a great OC, like the Commanders did with the HC and OC.

I give him 2 years tops and they will be looking again!
