Trump roars in like a lion

“This [inauguration] speech is the biggest F you to the ruling global elites in history. ”

8 years ago, Trump took office greeted by Obama’s insurrection from within. Using frivolous lawsuits to block executive orders, slow walking his orders, a press lying in unison and investigations by Democrat operatives on the government payroll, Obama had a good old time.

Never again.

Trump has seized the media by its skinny tie and ordered it to behave. Disney’s ABC had to shell out $15 million to him and give his lawyers another million because the network’s star newsman, morning anchor Stephanopoulos, called him a rapist repeatedly in interviewing Nancy Mace. (The evening newscasts are going the way of afternoon newspapers.)

How scared are TV executives? NBC opened Saturday Night Live this week with a skit mocking MSNBC. It was about as funny as a funeral—nobody’s heart was in it—but the network still stings from having to give Trump airtime after having Kamala on SNL and not him during the election.

The fun has just begun. Trump’s inauguration speech was, as Benny Johnson declared it, “The biggest F you to the ruling global elites in history.”

Michelle was the only smart one among the Democrats by staying in Hawaii. Better weather and less humiliation.

Trump started with a bang and made it a fireworks show:

From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. During every single day of the Trump administration, I will very simply put America first.

No one can argue that point. As for respect, he became the first president inaugurated with foreign leaders in attendance.

1) No, he didn’t. You cannot change the name of an international body of water without consensus from other nations.

2) How does this lower egg prices?

As an aging guy who still has his own real hair ... WTF?

Bezos went full shaved head, attempted to distract with the fake boob girlfriend. Zuck has a full wig. Musk had the hair plugs. Trump has everything (plugs/scalp reduction/combover). Only Pichai stands there confident in his own scalp.

From the number of times you have commented on the hair of others (non-democrats of course) it seems like you might have issues with your own hirsuteness or lack thereof.

You never gave us your thoughts on Dr Jill’s flowing mane. Our loss. Now about Karen Bass…

Back to the thread.

Today on Capitol Hill...

With Inauguration Day in the books, the Congress critters are back to work on the Hill on Tuesday. (Actually, the Senate got back to work Monday afternoon, sending several of President Donald Trump's nominees out of committee, confirming Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, and passing the Laken Riley Act, but today offers a full day for Congressing.)

There are a couple more confirmation hearings set for Tuesday:

Doug Collins - Secretary of Veterans Affairs - Veterans Affairs - 10:00 AM Eastern

Elise Stefanik - UN Ambassador - Foreign Relations - 10:00 AM Eastern

Other hearings/meetings set include:

Senate Finance - Meeting to consider Scott Bessent's nomination for Treasury Secretary

House Rules - Meeting to consider the Fix Our Forests Act and the Laken Riley Act

White House What's Up

I cannot tell you how phenomenal it feels to be writing this section about President Trump and not his predecessor. He and First Lady Melania, along with Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha, will attend the National Prayer Service at Washington National Cathedral Tuesday morning. After that? Well, we're not sure yet — the comms and calendar aspects of the new administration are still getting up and running, but we can expect it to be an action-packed day.

Again, I ask what the point of this is. The only justification I’ve seen from right wing circles is “cuz they got conquered LOL” and “Obama changed it so we changed it back”

The New Look for the Trump Oval Office - What Stayed and What Is Gone

As the peaceful transfer of power takes place between presidential administrations on Inauguration Day, a lot of changes get made on the fly. While one family moves out and another moves in, decor and family possessions get switched out in a matter of hours. But it is not only the residential quarters for the First Family that gets a makeover.

The most famous office in the world gets a speedy transformation as well. So, is President Trump keeping anything from Joe Biden's Oval Office decor in his Oval Office?

The Oval Office conveys something about the current occupant, but more than that, it is a place that must convey American strength and the importance of the Office of the President of the United States. It is a place where the President greets foreign heads of State, Congressional leaders and addressed the nation.

The art chosen is one way to do that. For Donald Trump, some of those works of art include a portrait of George Washington over the fireplace, replacing the sizable portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt that Biden had hung there. On one side of that portrait hangs another of Alexander Hamilton, America's first Treasury Secretary, and on the other side, a portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Returning to the "Oval" is a bust of Winston Churchill that Joe Biden had removed when he took over in 2021. There is also a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. that is a favorite of both Biden and Trump and will remain in the Oval Office. On the mantel sits two new silver eagle figures.

Most Presidents like to decorate their version of the Oval Office with items that highlight the values and goals of their administration. Trump's Oval Office also includes portraits of Benjamin Franklin and Andrew Jackson. During Trump's first term, he had a portrait of Jackson, the nation's seventh President, on loan from the U.S. Naval Academy.

The 2025 version is from the White House art collection. Joe Biden selected the portrait of Franklin for his focus on science. Donald Trump has opted to keep it. A portrait of Jackson also hung in Ronald Reagan's Oval Office.

Even more mundane details like the Oval Office rug, a blue one that Joe Biden had under the Resolute Desk, was exchanged for a more neutral color for Trump.

Another returning item from Trump's first term is a sculpture called "The Bronco Buster" by Frederic Remington. Behind the Resolute Desk are flags from all branches of the military, flags that were removed during Joe Biden's time in office. Gold curtains were installed for Trump's first term, and Biden kept those and they will remain. Joe Biden also kept a bust of Robert F. Kennedy in the Oval Office. Trump has removed that and gone one better, nominating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Funny how the "Ruling Global Elites" seemed to be perfectly ok with the speech.

Markets up about 1% today.

That's the way to stick it to the man!

Dang. If this was Biden you would have given us an over-punctuated “not.bad.at.all.”

How times change!

Damn, you missed your chance to change your screen name to "Karen Bass Is New to the Job."

"what's the point???" ask the folks who laughed and cheered as they pulled down and melted statues of the nation's heroes.

I considered it but it seems more an honest , uninformed mistake (that you are unable to own up to) than the complete absurdity of your repeated “he’s mentally fit” claims, I find no change warranted. Profile pic change is not ruled out.
