I love what odd mirror (not mentioned here but thats the name of the front) enables from a coverage perspective too.  We have run cover 2 man on the back side of this rush.  Typically that defense suffers because theres noone accounting for the QB, and with Mahomes or Lamar youre gonna get roasted.  However, with a QB spy you feel a lot better about running cover 2 man.  That defense is so powerful because you can get into a trail technique and jump under routes knowing there are 2 deep defenders that got your back.  I expect to see a ton of it this weekend.

Noone accounting for the QB?

I maybe be missing something but yeah cover 2 man is usually a problem because you rush 4, 5 coverage players play man, and 2 deep to protect.  Thus noone accounts for the QB and you have to contain rush.  Obviously thats a problem with Mahomes, but with odd mirror you sacrifice one of the primary rushers and spy the QB to be a second wave rusher.

The psychology of this game is so intense.  Facing this team for a 4th time in the playoffs in this era, having lost the previous 3.  That's a hurdle to overcome mentally.

As with everything, there is a negative, and a positive.  The positive is that at a certain point, you just draw a line and say "no more."  Like George McFly w/ Biff.

I feel like that as a fan.  Enough already.  Let's get it done this time.  I'd guess this team feels the same way.

You are right about the psychological aspect of beating a team that ends your season consistently, but after that Ravens game, I believe that Coach McD is ready and has the team ready.

What a great start to 2025 this will be when we beat them in their house. Most of America is already rooting for us to do this!

That game loss was 100% on the Chiefs. Mahomes got arrogant and failed to adjust. If we take the 3 instead of going for it before the half it probably never happens.

That was a weird game. The Chiefs were up 21-3 with a minute left in the first half and then only scored 3 more points. I think there was an argument in the locker room at the half of that game over what happened at the end with that pass to Tyreek short of the goal line. You could see Mahomes and Bienimy yelling at each other as they walked off the field. Mahomes never looked the same in the second half. He had defeated body language and a glazed look in his eyes. The Chiefs didn't punt in the first half, and then punted 4 times in the second. They essentially scored TDs on their 4 first-half drives and then couldn't move the ball at all. Mahomes threw two brutal picks that looked like he forgot how to play football. Again, some of that could be attributed to adjustments by Cincinnati but not all of it. Something happened in that locker room. Then, the Chiefs traded their biggest weapon just as they were entering an extended Super Bowl window. That seemed to me to prove that it was either Pat or Tyreek, but they could no longer play together. It obviously worked out great for KC, but at the time it was a shocking move.

Only because he did it once already, I can't help but fantasize about Allen playing another perfect game, and this time against the Chiefs.  Pretty much impossible to lose, unless somehow the other team also does it, and ends up with an extra possession.

Don't kill my dream!

They just overcame the 3x divisional round bugaboo. Now they can get past the 3x Chiefs one. This is such an awesome arc they are on right now from when they last reached this game 4 years ago. Amazing perseverance every year. I hope they can finally punch through and win it all because it will be an all time sports story if they do.

I’d guess that they feel like they’ve faced them 10 times and won half of them. For many of these players it’s 3 of the last 4.

Peter Noone?

It's a joke, brother..."noone" is not a word.  You're looking for "no one."

That's a young Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits. Perhaps too arcane a reference to those not of a certain age.

The Chiefs are always the funniest ones with this "no one believes in us" stuff.

Like...I get it. Every team searches for motivation in this stuff. Seemingly every pro athlete on planet earth is motivated by it.

But I guarantee that if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl this season, you're gonna hear a bunch of "no one believed in us" and "been doubting us all year" stuff coming out of their mouths. Yes. The 15-2, 1-seed, back-to-back champion Chiefs. No one believed in you. Sure. But you'll hear it! Its a lead pipe lock!

Athletes are so funny, man...

Yeah we will also have to listen to Kelce yearly bad singing of "you gotta fight, for your right, to party." He made me hate that song.

Ah, Herman's Hermits. The only band to ever use those stupid mutes on a Fender Jaguar.

I hope he learned from that last TD pass. Giving Lamar 10.3 seconds to throw the ball is no bueno. Nobody can cover that long. That pass rush was the most pathetic thing I ever seen.

agreed. People forget that Josh made some unreal like 3rd and 9 conversions last time around. That is not sustainable. We can’t be in 2nd and 11’s all the time this game, and definitely can’t be running on 2nd and long

Prepare to be disappointed

I am encouraged by the latest use of pressures from McDermott vs Baltimore. The look you mention puts a ton of pressure on the back end of the defense if your rushers can not get home. I’d hope that they can get creative on how they bring those 3 rushers (if that’s what they choose to do) to try and get guys better looks to get to the QB.

Can we just get some pressure on Mahomes with 4 guys every once in a while? If we can do that this is going to he a 2 score win

Caliendo has 30 inch arms. I hope they put Rousseau on him.

Use Miller, Epenesa and Solomon outside

This is an awesome stat line.   The Ravens and Broncos were two of the top three defenses against the run and against the Bills they gave up more rushing yards than at any time of the year.   HOOOOBOY!    This offensive line is playing their asses off and they are playing their best football both against the pass and run going into this championship game.    I have no doubt that the Bills will try to run it against the Chiefs and that the Chiefs will game plan to stop the run.
