I always say this but home field advantage is overrated now. With coaches communications until 14 seconds, silent counts, play calls with kills involved, crowds can make a difference for sure but not nearly as much in the past.

It is overrated when you are dealing with high level QB’s like mahomes and Allen. They seem to feed off the opposing crowds as much as their own. I do think it gives the home defense a bit of an advantage, especially when they can’t hear the cadence. I don’t think it will make much of a difference Sunday. Both teams have dealt with it enough.

Main thing from the last time we played them:

We converted, either due to yardage or defensive penalty, 5 of 10 3rd and 6+.  50% is unheard of and way above our season avg, most of these being in the 3rd and 8 or 9 range.

Point is we need to do a better job getting into more manageable 3rd down situations this game.  We played behind the sticks against Bmore and managed too, especially that 1st drive.

But I'm hoping to see us get better on early downs this game.  Hopefully can get the run game and quick passing executed early and often.

You really shouldn't be giving these gems away for free.

Teams have been saying that forever but yet he still seems to show up. The best plan is to hit him off the line then cover him…. It’s not like he is running away from anyone

Any Milano or Bernard update?

Is Bernard 100%

Milano does not have an injury designation - he’s playing.

Bernard has no injury designation - he’s playing.

Taron Johnson has no injury designation - he’s playing.

It's my favorite football pic since this one of Bart Starr's TD in the Ice Bowl (which was hanging in my bedroom for years afterwards).

As a boy, I read Jerry Kramer’s book Instant Replay.    Bills first, but I loved those Packer teams.  Kramer and Jethro Pugh.

I know it’s a little late, and Babich doesn’t really have time to read my post and correct his game plan… so I guess I just have to hope he’s thinking similarly.

As I see it, they had a great plan last week.  They schemed and focused on stopping Henry, while containing Lamar so he couldn’t just take off and beat them with his legs.  Add in a couple early scores and they forced Lamar to win the game passing. (Which he did a good job of and got close)

This week, I see Kelce as the key player that drives their offense.  So I really hope they have a plan to focus on Kelce and not let him sit all alone in a zone coverage with no one around him.   Then they have to contain Mahomes so he can’t run for first downs.  Essentially, don’t give up the easy first down tosses to Kelce or to Pat scrambling untouched.

They still have to contend with the running backs, Worthy, etc.  But every time Mahomes gets in trouble he looks #1 for Kelce and an easy catch.  Or #2 to scramble for the first.  Contain those two players and I think they contain their offense.    Thats easier said than done!  But that’s why they make millions and I don’t.

Go Bills!

I think it's a rule that Kelce must have a free release, and that no one can be within ten yards of him when he catches the ball. I believe it's in the same section of the rule book that says no defender can touch Mahomes at any time, and any incomplete pass on key third downs will result in a PI call.

Absolutely. We have to be able to gain more yards on the ground on first.

Jerry Kramer threw the block that enabled Starr to score the TD.  I remember reading his description of looking for a soft spot in the icy turf to get better footing to make the block.

Ray Scott and Jack Buck announcers for that game. Ray Scott was great and Jack was waaaayyyy better than his son.

Practice Squad elevations?

I'm guessing it will be Jackson and Clapp again since Elam's on the active roster.  I don't think we'll know if Bernard's cleared until the inactive list comes out tomorrow.

I really don't mind Spector being downgraded to out. I'd rather not see him on the field again as a Buffalo Bill.

I thought the same thing. Earlier this week, when I saw he was “questionable” on the report, I was like, “yup, sounds about right; questionable in more ways than one.”
