McDermott on 3rd and Goal

That was not a good play call.  There were several that could have been better in the second half.  I would have much preferred two QB sneaks, or at least give Allen the option to pass on 3rd down.  

 

Rest assured KC will have some imaginative play designs next week.  I hope we have a few ourselves.

This is the correct scenario.
Bad 2 plays from Brady, when needed most.

There’s an element of that to every team with a top 5-10 offensive line, and it’s compounded if you also have a top 10 RB. Having played guard…. The husky club loves it as it allows for an aggressive mindset.
 

That said, a little more optionality that branches off of those plays should be incorporated.

Tush push or shotgun pass.  Impossible to cover guys forever annd Allen Scrambles.  Allen can always run it in.  There was over 3 minutes left, time wasn’t a factor

It was a tough situation all around.  Can't blame the coaches either way.

 

In my opinion, it was a really bad spot by the refs.  Close to a full yard short of where it should have been.  But spot challenges almost never work, and we really needed to conserve those timeouts, in case we needed a game-winning drive.  So I can't fault McDermott for not throwing the flag there.

 

Good coaches think ahead.  And despite how much I love aggressive play, the Field Goal always needed to be the call on 4th Down.  You need a play that is going to get the touchdown on 3rd, and it was probably too far for a single QB sneak.  

 

Killing clock was a factor, and we've been more successful running the ball inside the 5 yard line this year.  Which meant the smartest play was probably either a Josh Allen run or a handoff to James Cook.  Both have been really good this year, but the Ravens made a great stop.

The play calling almost cost us the game imo, I didn't like the matchup with the Ravens to begin with and it clearly took us off our game but I'm hoping to go back to normal for the Chiefs.

So many variables here that create a domino effect. Great call on 2nd down that if Josh doesn’t trip is a TD and ballgame. 

 

3rd down Josh in shotgun with Josh keeping it wasn’t necessarily a bad call but I thought the play should have went to the edges instead of straight ahead. Credit Baltimore D here as they made a HUGE stop. 
 

While disappointing, the FG was the right call to put them up 8. With a long 3 yards to get on 4th down, if you don’t get it, the Bills likely lose as the Baltimore offensive had a ton of momentum in the 2nd half and would have all the momentum if they stopped the Bills on 4th down. Frankly, we’d all be ill if that played out. 
 

Lastly, did it cross anyone’s mind after Baltimore didn’t get the 2pt conversion that a Bill’s demon would appear on the onside kick? Thank you Rasul Douglas! Keep putting those demons to bed and keep finding a way!

The 3rd down play call would've been fine if they had Mack in to block. The sneak though has been superior so I don't understand not going for it if they were going to run

Exactly.  I love how this board thinks everything goes through McD.   Why have OC and DC if that is the case.   Does he make the coffee as well? 

There's no time for that, that's why they agree on goal play selection (along with most play selection) before the game.    Now McD may have tossed out some options in pre game planning, that is likely what really happens.

The eye in the sky should have corrected it without a challenge. I thought that was the point of it. To correct the inevitable errors of the bumbling officials and to do it on the down low.

Other than the tush push play the Bills goal line offense is pretty underwhelming
