This is the problem with football when compared to so many other sports. There are so many ways for a player to draw a penalty that one can be thrown on literally any play. A ref could throw a flag if he wanted to without seeing anything, then say "holding on player XX" and a replay might show that there was a borderline call. Same with pass interference, offensive pass interference, the list goes on. I think it's the fact that they just aren't consistent that people get so aggrieved. When it isn't consistent it makes them stand out as being thrown on purpose to help the team gaining the yardage.

And yet, some teams and players consistently get the opportune calls.

I expect a very aggressive called game by both coordinators. The Commanders showed last night that the NFL has truly become a 4 down league. The Chiefs showed making plays behind the line of scrimmage can overcome a so-so effort.

I don't.

I don't know what to expect from Modrack. I believe he may be ready to put some cards on the table because his efforts in his first year have been admirable. Combined with Tee Martin as the QB coach I think they've done wonders and that's because they don't take gambles. They set up plays and they design the scheme to maximize every opportunity. And it works. Jackson doesn't throw targets open like he used to sometimes do. He plays smarter than that but also hits Windows from time to time. What he does is rely on the first read and it almost always an option. When the ball goes up today you must expect that the target is open. Every single pass he has thrown was to a target that was open and clear. He doesn't have to read the defense, which he struggles to process in real time. If the defense can mix it up real time on him for passing plays he might slip.

Before the open passes he will see the field. He struggled against some pre snap reads and it when he checks down to the run. If he sees too many in the box or coverage which he knows he can switch to RPO he instantly goes to that option.

He doesn't play like an intelligent high vision player. He plays like an athlete who can do whatever he wants whenever he wants because that's what he can usually do.

Once he drops back to pass he doesn't check down. It's something around 5% are checked down and even less likely on third down. This is why third down is critical for us to get on the field. He won't check down because he can find the open target or run it himself for the first.

To combat the down field opportunities he maximizes in lieu of the check down we have to stay on our WRs a little while longer and play man. We can't let them beat us in the air. We have to let Lamar Jackson and Henry beat us with their legs. This means our front 7 have to beat the 5 OL and 2 of them. This means when Picard enters we must be prepared to install the package necessary to stop the big FB. Same with their extra OL. We need to make sure these refs know that if they're going to sub than we are too, and the defense has the right to do so.

All of this makes it a team playing chess against a team that must play Go!

The Ravens must and will be strategic to execute their game plan because that's what works best with that style. The Bills must be malleable and neurally sympatic.  We need to see the culmination of a year of Rapp and Hamlin playing together, the maturity of Milano who has to play his best game, the high frame per second processing of Johnson and Bernard, and Ed Oliver and the DL fold the pocket.*

*Folding the pocket is exactly that. It is not collapsing the pocket because that opens the outside lanes. The Bills must pressure from all 4 sides to be in front, beside, and parallel to behind.

That was Wade Phillips against the Pats in the "just give it to them" game.

I recall when hoodie and Pats ran it in unopposed for a 2 point conversion, many gamblers were either ecstatic or very upset.

People read too much into refs because of social media and more replays of every call

I wish I could find the clip but I saw an old clip from a Montana 49ers era game where SF scored a TD and kicked the extra points and the 2 refs walked out of the end zone with the biggest smiles on their faces signalling the XP was good that you've ever seen

That would be a viral meme if it happened today after a KC score

My mentality now is no excuses.  The game is home, in front of our great fans, our turf, our weather, no major injuries going in.  It’s a revenge game from being physically dominated in week 4. That should be even

more motivation.  Plus being home underdogs.  More motivation.

Everything the Bills have dreamed of is right there in front of them. The players and coaches even have the experience of the last two seasons of disappointments to pull from.

Just win the game. No excuses.

As much as I appreciate the games as a child, your first game as a teenager or young adult would be even more special as it’s truly completely memorable. Don’t get me wrong, I remember my first but it’s not as vivid. weird how that works by age.

I always wonder when a coach will just snap. Like a Dan Campbell and take his team off the field, and refuse continue, like a Disney movie. I guess they will never uncover anything in writing or audio but its real. On one play the Redskins QB was shoved when he was 3 yards out of bounds and no one blinked. The calls against Mahommes were laughable.

Not to mention Goff getting blown up helmet-to-helmet when he tried to make a play during the pick-six.

On another note, I happen to agree with those who said the league wants the Chiefs in the AFCCG but not necessarily any farther.  Everyone watches the SB no matter what, and Josh/Lamar in search of a first Lombardi will be a fine storyline.  But nobody gives a ***** about the Texans.  There's a reason they always get the 3:30 Saturday game.  So I'm not sure we will see quite as much blatant favoritism next week as we saw yesterday.

I think it was Pete Carroll?

Worst night of sleep I have had in a very long time.  Last week, I didn't start really feeling the Denver game until a couple of days before the game.  This week, I have felt it ever since the Denver game ended.  This is one of those games.......  And I am not even sure it is animosity towards the Ravens themselves.  It's more their fanbase that has really made this a less than enjoyable week for me.  I have stayed away from social media and the national broadcasts as much as possible, but man, even trying to separate from all of that, you still hear about how much glazing there is going on of the Ravens from the media and their obnoxious fan base.

Of course we want to win every single week, but the way things are set up right now, we can shut a lot of people up over the next few weeks.  This week, it's the Ravens cult.  If we win, next week all we will hear about is how Allen can't beat Mahomes in the Playoffs and it will be about how we can go about beating both the Chiefs and the refs.  Then, even if we are blessed to take all of these top teams down and punch our ticket to the Super Bowl, all we will hear about is how we've never won one and never will.....  It is narrative after narrative right now and each one is garbage in it's own way.  So yeah.....all this together has me wanting to win the Super Bowl more this season than ever before because we can right so many wrongs along the way.  And I know I, and probably a lot of Bills fans, are feeling that right now.

GO BILS!

Sorry to hear that.  Personally, I slept like a baby.  No worries, Josh and the boys are not losing this game.

Goff was a defender when he got hit. QB protections don't apply.

Physical dominance reigns supreme in the post season, especially in weather games.  Not flashy stuff.  They will try to smash us with Henry.  The Bills O line will need to dominate the trenches more.

This game means a lot for Buffalo. If Baltimore comes into our house and wins, it will mean Buffalo has fallen behind a third team in the conference. McD needs his defensive unit to finally play well when it matters.

I’m so nervous that Baltimore comes into our house and just blows our defence apart.
