Part of it is marrying his skillset in a system like Payton’s. He’s being maximized to a degree and his ceiling is probably not that high. I don’t think he is going to be HoF bound. But if you told me back in 2019 he would lead an NFL team to 10 games and a WC appearance as a rookie, I wouldn’t have believed you for a second. The idea that these older QB prospects (Nix, Penix, Daniels, etc), who have spent many years playing college football, are somehow degraded assets is an antiquated view. You’re signing these guys to four-year contracts…who cares if they’re 28 or 29 when their contract’s up? 1 Quote

Going forward you will see a lot of QB's who have played a lot of college football going higher then anyone thought they would. Quote

The Bills, who draft toolsy guys, usually have to pay a player right when they finally figure it out. That’s true but there’s a corollary. A toolsy guy like Rousseau may take a couple years to hit his stride, but if he does, you have no problem giving him a massive deal. It’s the limited ceiling, good or solid but not great, guys that you let walk or risk overpaying dramatically for their impact. To me, I would much rather bet on the upside over the floor. I think stars win games in the NFL. There’s a place for drafting role players too, and once you get to the late rounds it’s a complete crapshoot anyway. 4 minutes ago, mannc said: The idea that these older QB prospects (Nix, Penix, Daniels, etc), who have spent many years playing college football, are somehow degraded assets is an antiquated view. Every QB needy team in the NFL doesn’t want the next Dak or Goff or Cousins. They want the next Josh or Mahomes type guy. I think that’s not a bad desire to have, but it’s not realistic. Those guys come around every 10 years. There’s still a true line of QB’s that are worth paying. 1 Quote

Here's another thing to think about: Guys like Stroud, Nix and Daniels are playing really well out of the gate, which gives the team an even bigger "rookie QB contract window"...As great as Josh is, he didn't become a top level QB until the third year of his rookie deal, when he was already extension-eligible... 2 Quote

Yeah they're probably going to lose both co- ordinators right Quote

There are only about 8 or 9 guys max I'd take ahead of him. He didn't play well last night but as you say he took a huge hit. Upgrading Goff is darn difficult. Quote
london_bills Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago As good as Washington looked I was gutted for the Lions Quote

Goff can be a good QB when everything around him is really good- like the Lions the past 2 seasons. In a vacuum- he throws a ton of wobbly balls, is borderline immobile, and prone to a lot of picks. Well, he's made it to the Super Bowl, so....I don't really put last night on him. The Lion's gameplan was crap (should have leaned much heavier on Gibbs, who Washington never stopped), the defense played poorly, and as I said, I think he was not all there after Luvu's illegal hit... 5 minutes ago, 947 said: Goff can be a good QB when everything around him is really good- like the Lions the past 2 seasons.
