Wait a minute, Detriot was the #1 rated team yesterday morning.

Guess the talking heads are hiding today.

I retired from sports betting at the wrong time lol. Betting the money lines against Darnold and Goff in their first playoff games this year seemed like really good value

Believe me I know. The weekly commentary is designed to get people betting the wrong way. Some day people will realize it's all a big betting scam. Detroit has 16 players on the injury list yet they were supposed to beat Washington,  yeah right. :D

Certainly the injuries made a big difference, but I do wonder if this loss will take some of the luster off the potential hirings of Johnson and Glenn?

Ben Johnson called a brutal game. He was calling trick plays at critical moments - one went for a pick. It was brutal to watch. Detroit looked bad. Played bad. Coaches were at a loss. Not sure what the heck happened. Redskins came to PLAY!!!! Outmatched them.

One theory out there is that Goff was concussed or hurt bad on that brutal no call hit.

Yeah I was thinking/wondering the same thing.

Ben Johnson is only partly to blame. Dan Campbell wants to play that way. He wants those trick plays. We know that because they were called all year. Notice how the Bills haven't called a trick play since the debacle in Baltimore? That's a head coach stepping in and nipping that in the bud. Campbell takes "coaching to win" to an extreme level and sometimes that bites him in the butt. Yesterday was one of those days.

Daniels is breaking all norms and narratives.  What he did this season, last week and yesterday is astonishing..

mind boggling for a rookie.

299 yards passing and 182 running....Washington surprised the Lions defense.  The INTs are a second story.

this!!!   This loss is on the defense in their inability to stop the Commanders back in their own building

The trick play was unnecessary there but I think getting away from Gibbs was the bigger failure.

My personal horn toot is I really liked Dyami Brown coming out. Not really sure why it has taken his entire rookie deal for it to happen but he has fully broken out in these playoffs. Just in time to make himself some money in FA. I wouldn't hate the Bills taking a shot. That talent has always been there.

Dude yes.

I drafted him in a deep sleeper league like 3 years ago just waiting for him to take over as a #2 in Washington.  He has finally put something together.

I don't have a clue what his market will be.  I wouldn't touch him for Curtis Samuel money.

Does Dan Campbell call the offensive plays or does Ben Johnson?

Ben Johnson is wholly responsible for the playcalling. His Head Coach gives him carte blanche and maybe could have tried to dial him back but I think you go with what got you there to an extent.

He’s one year younger than Trevor Lawrence.

A lot of the success of Daniels and Nix can be attributed to them playing high-level college football for 5 years. Jayden Daniels had 55 starts in the Pac12 and SEC. So he came in very pro-ready, but there might not be much of a second-year leap due to his already having reached his ceiling. Now that he has adjusted to the speed of the NFL game, what you see now is what you're going to get moving forward. This is in contrast to a guy like Drake Maye, who has much more room for growth if they get him the right coaching.

What it might do is change the general bias there has been against older "maxed out" QBs in recent years for toolsy prospect types.

to your point, imo, Jayden and Nic had zero chance in the NFL if they were 2 or 3 year guys in college.

i said this pre draft and I’ll say it again. Their success is a complete referendum on how wrong the league views and develops QBs.

Not to go off topic, but as an FSU fan, not getting a chance to play for the title in 2023 irks me more because that FSU defense shut down Daniels, Nabers, Thomas amongst other 2025 draft picks Will Campbell and Mason Taylor etc 2 years in a row. They didn’t have Jordan Travis but they had the best defense in the country in 2023

A switch back to the "at least 30 starts" rule of Parcells!

The huge advantage is that teams get the whole rookie contract to compete with these types of players. The Bills, who draft toolsy guys, usually have to pay a player right when they finally figure it out.

Interestingly the one McDermott run draft - 2017 - the Bills made six picks. All six: White, Jones, Dawkins, Milano, Peterman, Vallejo; were seniors.

And that White, Dawkins, Milano class is one of the best drafts in Bills history. They all played as rookies and by their 2nd year were mainstays of the team.

Seriously.

i mean Bo Nix wasn’t just undraftable at Auburn. He wasn’t “invite to camp” worthy imo.

Part of it is marrying his skillset in a system like Payton’s. He’s being maximized to a degree and his ceiling is probably not that high. I don’t think he is going to be HoF bound.

But if you told me back in 2019 he would lead an NFL team to 10 games and a WC appearance as a rookie, I wouldn’t have believed you for a second.
