“If I'm being completely honest, I don't spend any time thinking about the interviews, and when I go in the interviews, I'm literally just myself,” Brady said. “There's no getting ready or preparing, it's not fair to all my guys if I'm spending time in this organization, in the city, if I'm spending time taken away from game planning.

"So if I'm doing an interview, it's the same time I would normally be home eating dinner with my wife or spending time with my son and so they're the ones that would the schedule would change. But there's no preparation for it, I'm just out there answering questions and just being me and going from there.”

Brady has had the same introductory “get to know a little bit about you” interview in the can for years. I hope his statement above can calm the nerves of the pearl-clutching knitting circle around here. Like I said previously, it’s Saturday, the day of the week with the least amount to do for teams preparing for Sunday game.

I agree.  No sarcasm, but if bad teams think it is unfair to wait until after the superbowl I have no sympathy.

The Bills suggested that rule change a few years ago when Daboll and Frasier were getting a lot of interest. They felt that the coordinators still coaching in the playoffs did not get a fair interview process because teams felt the need to hire as fast as possible.

First world problems. Still alive in the playoffs, top 4 team in the conference at worst and have an offense so good the OC is getting multiple HC interviews.

let’s look back at our worries and complaints pre-2017. What a time

Yeah, and all the playoff teams are dealing with the same thing.

Nonsense.

If he really cared about winning, he'd be at the field with a shovel right now!

I don’t have an issue with coaches looking at new opportunities but here we are in the middle of preparing for perhaps the biggest playoff game/showdown in years and Brady is taking time off to interview for a job. What kind of a message does that send to the team and the fans?

What’s more important your allegiance to your current team or your future career?

These interviews are a distraction from the job at hand and if Joe simply stayed focused on his current job, the future will take care of itself.

I wish him all the best and hope we can retain him but I would like to see him shelve his future plans for a while so he can focus on the present.

This is such an overblown narrative from fans.

Explain to me why it's such a distraction. How long did he prepare? What did he have to prepare? Did he do his prep during his typical work hours? Did he fly all the way to Chicago or spend an hour of his day on a FaceTime interview? Please fill us in with a detailed analysis.

You do realize these guys have lives outside the building? Should they be sequestered and kept in a broom closet during the season? Force fed no doz and kept working 24/7?  Pee in a bottle at their desks. This is the NFL...not Amazon.

I'm sure Brady has done his job. If he wasn't good at balancing work and outside commitments he would be in the position to interview for a HC job.

Agreed. No one should be upset with Brady. This is an NFL issue that should be fixed. Teams shouldnt be allowed to interview until the day after the Super Bowl.

There simply isn't time. Unless they are willing to truncate the pre-season and camp and move everything else back.

what if he did it on his lunch break? It's not a distraction. It's a video call

All the assistants are doing it, and have done this for years.  If the Bills were 5-12 and searching for a head coach we’d be thrilled they were interviewing the hot guys this week.

Would we have something against ugly guys?

It’s a bad deal, but every team operates under the same rules.  I believe the Ravens OC has had an interview or two as well, and their defensive coordinator interviewed extensively last postseason…

Serious questions. Is anyone interviewing Spags? And if not, why? Just another thing the Chiefs got lucky with. A great D coordinator who appears to be happy just being a D coordinator for the same team for 10+ years.

Too old most likely.  He has said he’d like to come back as a head coach a few times but I think that’s the hangup for teams.  Even if he’s good I think it’s assumed he’s not gonna coach well into his 70s so you probably are only getting 5-6 years of him then starting over

with the ‘he’s a failed head coach’ risk on the back of peoples minds I think the age thing is just one too many points against him

Alright, that puts me a bit at ease. I hadn't read that before.

Rules need to be changed. Even on the drought yrs I would feel this way. Rule should be only after SB.

That means and is when the actual NFL year is over. Simple.

I dont see how a couple weeks would change anything. Its not like the Head Coach is the GM - drafting in a few months.

So now you’re suggesting he doesn’t eat?? Great so he goes into team meetings in the afternoon hungry, which means he won’t be able to focus, maybe he gets hangry and yells at a player and now that player doesn’t play as well on Sunday…I can’t believe you would make such a ludicrous statement

It takes normally 2-3 weeks to run a hiring process. Then another week minimum to build a staff and then you have to self scout your roster which coaches are heavily involved in. You can't do that in a couple of days. Then you have to know the FAs. And there is 5 weeks between the Superbowl and FA. It isn't enough time.
