That makes sense but so does 4 (Rule could be: if number is 10 or more, subtract 6; if number is less than 10, subtract 3):

 

12 - 6 = 6

6 - 3 = 3

10 - 6 = 4

 

So rules like that are arbitrary.  Who knows?  Go Bills!
