I’ve also had the sneaking suspicion that we haven’t ended the McD project after so many failed playoff appearances because Beane is a great salesman and sells McD to ownership because he believes his job is tied to McD. Which he may be right but it’s a spineless move for an organization that has the best player on the planet

Pegula fell in love with McDermott long before he hired Beane.  I think the only way he's fired in the next five years is if McDermott steals his patio furniture.

A fantastic Monday to Saturday coach, is a great leader, developer and motivator of men.

Game day - hmmmm......you know how well that has gone in some of the big moments.

Not sure about most outstanding coach in the NFL...that seems a bit of a stretch to me. Needs to start winning some big game moments for mine. He has a chance to do exactly that on Sunday.

Please sir, name me another coach (other than Reid & Belichek) that has taken his team to the play offs 5 consecutive years in a row, won their division championship 4 years running, has won at least 1 play off game each of the last 5 years, & went to a AFC championship game .

Is there another that has these same accomplishments recently ? If so do tell & if there is another coach that could come in and replicate these accomplishments and guarantee a Lombardi IYHO i'm all ears .

I hope he does change all of your minds this season so we can move on from the criticism . One day he will be gone and it will take years to get back to where they are now and every one can relish in the memory of what we had once upon a time .

I just hope this nonsense doesn’t end with Josh saying peace out. Let’s win it all this year

Without a winning record in the regular season, you ain't even getting to the playoffs. Regular season record does matter. Of course, winning championships is what everyone plays for, but only one single team wins in each year.  Coaching matters, but so does player implementation, luck, and referee competency.

Regular season has a massive impact on playoff success haha I chuckle every time people discount it.  It’s happening right before our eyes…we currently have to go Baltimore-KC which would be two 60/40 type games even in the best of circumstances.   If we had the 1 seed it would be a fairly easy win against Houston then just one of Baltimore/KC.  That’s a humongous probability difference

Is objective criticism of the coach not allowed?

I only pointed out that he has made some bad calls in the big moments. That doesn't mean he is a failure - far from it. And I said as much.

But he does need to avoid the deer in the headlights moments that have plagued his tenure. In terms of extracting the most out of a group of players, there may be none better in the NFL.

Name me a coach who has done all that and still HASN'T won a Super Bowl...

They're home underdogs because they overachieved this year with a lesser roster.  That's on Beane who always seems to get a free pass.

Exactly.  McDermott is punished by the fans because he raises expectations by overachieving during the regular season.  Then we crash back down to earth in the postseason, people blame McD.

Beane has never given McD a SB roster (i.e. the best roster in the league) but folks think McD should be fired for not delivering a SB anyway.

Weirdly, McD seems to be well respected by his players (who rated him an "A" in the NFLPA survey and had his back when he was attacked by Dunne), fellow coaches, sportswriters, etc. - but not so much by Bills fans.

lol. Everyone that makes the argument he should win because he has the best player just makes the case stronger for McDermott to stay.

Allen is not the unanimous best player. And the players competing with Allen for the best player are the ones McDermott loses to.

Unfortunately for McDermott, no matter what good he does in the regular season or Wild Card round the 13 seconds game will be the main thing he's remembered for if the Bills don't at least make it to the Super Bowl.  Josh and this offense was about to win the game despite the porous defense and that's when the late game coaching malpractice by McDermott happened.  It not only cost the Bills an AFC Championship home game but every time we hear how there hasn't been a current AFC QB except for Burrow who's been able to beat Mahomes head to head in the playoffs it reinforces that bad memory of 13 seconds.  Every time our defense puts up a dud or McDermott screws up late game situational management that anger from that game comes rushing back.

The anxiety of having a generational QB not being able to win a Super Bowl here is another reason people want to pivot away from McDermott immediately before Josh's prime years are over.  The dread of going into another drought post Allen is definitely on my mind.  I guess that's my long way of saying it's not easy being a Bills fan.

McDermott is good at lying the ground work and keeping the team focused and together.

i think his defense is slightly becoming more outdated and he needs to drastically work on his management skills.

you cannot fire coach after year after year. Whether it be defensive coordinator in Frazier, OC in Dorsey, or whatever ST coach there is. Granted these guys needed to go, but still need better stability and judgement.

you can do much worse than McDermott, yes, but fear of moving on isn’t why anyone should stick around someone for a long time.

especially if the results aren’t changing.

He needs to get to the AFC championship with this healthy roster at minimum to keep his spot for atleast one more year.

Exactly 3 consecutive years of losing at home divisional round would be unacceptable, especially after they directly follow the 13 second blunder in the championship game the year before.

A common mistake here, the 13 second loss was at KC in divisional round after 2021 season.  KC lost to Bengals in AFC championship the week after.

Bills lost to KC in AFC championship after 2020 Covid season.

About time he got recognized for something. I think he was snubbed for CoY in his early years. McD is a top 10 coach. However, I must not have made enough net worth in my lifetime to have ever heard of "the prestigious Maxwell Football Club."

Apparently you Josh "peace out" people don't pay attention. Josh loves it here. He aint going anywhere. You guys are like flat earthers. Just clueless.

Bills lost to Texans... What makes you think they are so easy?

Wow! This thread brought all the anti-McDermott nay-sayers.

Maybe, just maybe, you could admit that he is an outstanding coach—perfect? No! (But who is?)—yes, an outstanding coach.

And if he wins the Super Bowl this year, he will become one of the NFL's elites--probably Canton-bound (yes, I said it) --after that. Look at what he has done compared to the 17 years before he was here.

I knew this would trigger the malcontents and people who clearly have no understanding of real leadership. Amusing to watch.

GO BILLS !!!!

Name another coach that's had as hapless a Division during that stretch.

Awards of these superlative varieties mean next to nothing without postseason success.  MVP, COTY, etc., if one flops in the postseason they lose standing, particularly when gained in the softest division in the league.

Allen has answered.  This game is HUGE in that regard.

The '90s team went to four straight Super Bowls, ... with Kelly.

Let's hope we bring home the bacon on Sunday.

GO BILLS!!!
