It's confirmed:

The year the NFL takes the first round bye away from the one-seed, the Bills will immediately begin perennially winning the one-seed.

Pretty much.  This is exactly how it's probably going to happen.

It's obviously not on purpose.  But it just shows our fantastic luck.

We missed the playoffs for 19 years or something ridiculous.  Right after we got to the top of the AFC East, they added another Wild Card team.

As soon as we became the second best team in the AFC, they took the bye from the #2 seed.

You never know.

What if the Chiefs are really rusty after a 2 week layoff and Texans jump on them early ?

I believe the Texans will win the sack battle, the TO battle and Stroud will make enough off script plays to get the win . 27-24

The Chiefs are going to make an absurd statement win.

Stroud sacked 7 times.  3 INTs

Chiefs win 42-14

Yep I agree.  It feels like everything is lining up for exactly that.  Stroud and the texans are not good enough to stand in there 40 times and throw the ball and win this game.

if they don't have mixon or if he plays but is banged up and then comes out they are going to get beat by 25 points at least.  KC has been sitting around waiting for this game while everyone talks about every thing in the nfl but them for a month.

Even if they hit mahomes 3 or 4 times and get a takeaway or two they are going to get killed.

the Chiefs aren't a come from behind team?  Mahomes is 6th among active starters in 4th Q comebacks (far fewer seasons than anyone ahead of him).

I do. KC’s tackle issues are still there. Houston’s edge guys turned it on the last couple of weeks. If they can show up like they did last week it’s going to make KC’s offense struggle.

I’m definitely betting on Houston with the points for sure. Just hoping that more money comes in on KC to drive that line up. I already have a teaser bet with Houston+Bills locked in. Really seems like easy money.

I am rooting for you!!! Make that money!

Like 24-0?

Or just go 8 teams and the top 2 seeds get the bye

Can you show your math on that one?  I can’t figure out how having 5 teams in the divisional round would work.

I'll be honest, I don't care at all what is happening in the Chiefs game. I'm pretty focused on the Ravens. This is a tough matchup.

I'm not even watching. Moved a flight back a day to make sure I catch the Bills game! The only one I care about.

1, 2 get the bye

3 vs 8, 3, wins and would hypothetically get a bye

4 vs 7, 4 wins

5 vs 6, 5 wins

Semifinal wildcard

The highest remaining seed that wins, gets a week off. Because 3 won, they get a bye. If hypothetically all lower seeds won, 6 , 7 and 8, the 6th seed would get the bye and 7 would play 8 in the semifinal wildcard round. The 6th seed would be the lowest that could hypothetically manufacture it's own bye.

3 gets a bye

4 vs 5, 4 wins

Divisional Rd

1 vs 4, 1 wins

2 vs 3, 2 wins

1 vs 2 AFC championship

Similar to only 5 teams making it before 1990 but a little different.

In 1989 buffalo finished with 9 wins and technically got a bye week

From 2020-2024 buffalo has finished with 13 wins 3x and are punished for a great regular season. The system punishes the best teams now and that makes zero sense to me

So your system could have the 1 seed having a bye in the first round but not the second round while the 6 seed could have a bye in the second round but not the first round.  And you think this is better than the current system where only the regular season winner gets a bye?  That’s a tough putt.

No the 1 and 2 seed both get multiple byes.

3-8 play each other. The highest remaining seed ( can only go as low as 6) would get the reward of manufacturing it's own bye while two teams play in the semifinal wildcard

Then the top 2 seeds would play whoever survived.

It specifically Rewards winning in the regular season and if you finish at least in the top 6, you can possibly create your own bye

So technically let's say all the lower seeds won

6 gets a bye week

7 would play 8, 7 wins hypothetically in the semifinal wildcard

1 vs 7

2 vs 6

It rewards the winning in the regular season which is just... and punishes the 7 and 8 seed. It's impossible for the 7th or 8th seed to get any bye. And rightfully so

So week 2 of the playoffs would feature one game in each conference?  No offense, but you’re making a really good case for the current structure.
