Lamar hates cold weather and does not feel totally comfortable playing in 35 degrees let alone 12 or whatever it will be.  Keep in mind when the Ravens fly out of Baltimore on Saturday afternoon it will be 42 degrees....when they land in Buffalo it will be dropping into the teens overnight.

I would sell out to stop the run, spy Lamar, make him be a passer if you can.

Do we know he does?  I don't recall off the top of my head many frigid cold weather games with Lamar in them.

There's definitely a difference between cold and what the conditions will be Sunday Night.  We know the Bills can play in them and we know Allen can still throw anywhere on the field in them.

If, big if, Lamar is off at all down the field due to the extreme cold, that would be massive in our ability rush 5 and/or spy, especially if no/hobbled Zay Flowers.

It's essentially what happened last time we played them in the Playoffs.  The Ravens came into that game a juggernaut, but once we realized they couldn't throw down the field due to the wind, our Defense put the clamps on them.

I say all this, again, with zero idea whether or not the extreme cold affects Lamar.

I can understand,  you can't practice well in poor conditions.

Well that makes no logical sense. In that case, you can’t play well in poor conditions either.

No, you practice in good conditions to get the game plan in and plays down, then go play in bad conditions

I was making a joke based on the slightly schizophrenic Bills fan reactions this week.

Ahh, yeah it's kinda ridiculous, isn't it.

You can control your practice environment,  not the game environment.

Why get in poor practices the week before the game? That makes no logical sense.

Because that’s the game environment you’re going to be in. You should practice in the conditions that you will play in.

It is for this same reason that the Bills cranked up the heat in the field house to prepare for Miami games.

It is for this same reason that Belichick would bring the 6 time Super Bowl champion Patriots outdoors and pour water on the balls and make them practice in that.

Practicing in conditions opposite of what you will play is logically unbound. Footing is different on a frozen field. Ligaments do not stretch as much. Entire plays that work in good weather, don’t always work in bad weather, because they rely on speed that doesn’t exist in cold weather. etc.

The greatest coaches of all time understood this and would make their team practice in the conditions they play in. Including Parcells, Belichick, Landry and Lambeau.

I don't know the answer, but did they practice on crappy conditions every day?  I can't see how not being about to practice your plays properly will help in the game.

I'm sure if it was just raining,  they would practice outside. I doubt the game Sunday will be a sloppy game, i still think there is benefit to actually practice your plays with some success.

you practice in poor conditions but 1st day or 2 indoors to get the game plan in then go out and run plays in cold, wind....

Weather definitely matters. guys will say it doesn't (because what else are you going to say) but if you don't experience cold, wind and snow much it can be a shock to the system.

It's the time on the bench that's killer. You sweat, even in 8 degree weather, and you're fine. Then you come to the freezing cold bench and sit there for 10-15 minutes and that sweat becomes cold and clammy, and it's miserable.

Any of us who have lived in WNY and been outside in the winter know how to deal with this and/or have become conditioned to it. But if you're not familiar it's got to feel like torture.

Sort of the flip side of playing in Miami and being in the full sun all game when it's 120 degrees on the sideline while the Dolphins are in the shade. It matters.

The benches are heated.  Same with helmet heaters behind the benches.

Like heated leather & steering wheel on your ride..m

I think if we were playing the Chargers or the Texans it would matter way more than the Ravens...

Agree.  I think Harbaugh is a fairly hard-nosed coach and has his staff do a pretty good job of getting the players ready for the likely conditions of the game.  eg if it's supposed to be 10 degrees for the game, he might actually have them setting up a freezer set to 10 degrees by the practice field and chilling the balls so they will have the same feel, that kind of thing.

The ball gets a lot more slippery in single digit temps for all teams...none of those players have experienced that yet. I'm guessing Ravens have more than one fumble this game.

Not for nothing, but it’s a bit strange that football starts in warm weather and ends with high stakes matchups sometimes decided by who can execute better in extreme cold.

The NFL clearly intends for the season to replicate the trajectory of Barbarossa.

They've practiced all season and I'd bet the vast majority of those practices went well. Of course they did, look where they are. A serious SB contender.

I think it's a miscalculation to not practice in the elements you are to play in. I'm not saying the Ravens can't or won't win, but I feel better knowing they might not acclimate quite like we will.

I suppose, but how effective is it when the ambient temps are not replicated?

Not the same, as I see it.

How do the replicate single digit conditions? 10-15 mph winds,  possible snow?

My point is, the conditions play in our favor which makes it a true home field advantage. We have performed optimally in these conditions.

I hope so.  I think the conditions may favor the Ravens on defense, they're bigger and stronger.

On offense,  poor conditions generally favor strong running games, both teams are strong. Thankfully,  Brady and Kroemer have done a great job committing to a strong run game.
