"Bounce back" "keep your heads up" coach keeps us in the game and does not let us dwell on it

The unit, what it looks like and the turnover...it's got better as a unit from September and where you are now

A full time player doing what he does.... Morrison is a doof...when you have an offense that can roll 30 pts how do you play it? Long winded question promoting himself.

No one expects 35-10 this weekend... They have weapons. What are challenges? Perspective on DG and corners tackling.... Challenges as CB to tackle him.

It's interesting to me that players seem to have a higher opinion of McD and the coaching staff than fans do.  The camaraderie they talk about, the preparation, the unity, the resilience...  it all comes from the coaches.

Honestly, no one really questions McDermott's preparation, how he has created a strong culture and how the team prepares etc. Typically it's in-game stuff. But I think mostly everyone agrees that McDermott is a good coach who has done a very good job. The question isn't if he can do the job, the question is if he can win a Super Bowl, at least in my mind. And that is where I am. Is he Tony Dungy who had to be replaced in TB to get over the hump? 

 

But anyway yes, it's great to hear players, especially a guy like Cooper, talk about how different the locker room is and how comfortable he feels. It's a testament to McDermott and his staff.

Colin Cowherd said today that McD is a better coach now than he was 3 years ago. I believe that is accurate, despite the people here who have made up their minds that he is the problem. Believe it or not, people can and should get better at what they do with more experience.  He hasn’t gotten over the hump YET, but I like a guy who is in the mix and is improving.

Gee, that’s really different than what you typically hear from players about their coaches.

Sure, you make a good point.

 

But often you can read between the lines.  Players who don't like their coaches either don't mention them or damn them with faint praise.

 

There have been a few times I felt players may have damned our coaches, including McD, with faint praise.  But there have been many other times when they've gone out of their way to praise their coaches.  And former players like Eric Wood (not anonymous guys as in in the Dunne article) seem to respect McD and say things like, "McDermott always leads" and "The team has his back."

 

And of course the Bills players, in the last NFLPA survey, gave McD a grade of "A." 

 

Put it all together and it seems the players respect McD more than the fans do.

Dick Jauron made their jobs nice and fun.  McDermott installed both a family culture and excellence.
