Securing Joe Brady as our OC

Observing the Buffalo Bills offense this year has been awesome from not only a stats standpoint, but from the eye test as well.
 

Our offense has been so efficient and I can think of very few plays that I thought were boneheaded calls this season. Only one off the top of my head is the trick play against the Ravens that got Josh throttled. 
 

I think we can all agree that our most important player, Josh, has looked awesome this year. Yeah his stats are a little down, but we are winning with a more balanced approach instead of asking Josh to make magic happen every single game. 
 

What I wonder is if we were to offer Brady a $6 million a year to be our OC and secure him in Buffalo. He’d be making a salary equivalent of the 12th highest paid HC in the NFL. I think he is absolutely perfect for Josh and this is the offense we’ve needed here for so long that has balance and effectiveness.
 

I realize he may want to be a HC and see if that works out for him. But curious why big deals aren’t offered to coordinators more often.

Have been thinking the same thing lately--pay the guy, whatever it takes, and I think your number should work.

 

Why give up what is already one of the best offenses in the league, and one of the best in history, and an all time great at quarterback,  to take over a team with a dysfunctional foundation? Who knows how great this offense will become, as they have not really had a  number one or two receiver this year and are breaking records anyway! Imagine what happens when they have great wideouts.

 

And Brady needs more seasoning, has not been a coordinator very long, so will be less likely to be successful than if he waits a year or two and has more of the skills a head coach needs.

I believe we're on borrowed time with Brady as our OC.

There are too many openings for HC this year and he's interviewing for pretty much all of them (Dallas aside for now).

I think he will land one of them especially with a win next week. 

 

Ideally it would be nice to retain him for another year or 2 for continuity sake,  especially after implementing a historic offense

He’s without doubt the best coordinator McDermott has had.  He improves our odds of winning a Super Bowl and I hope we can make it happen while he’s hear because without him it gets tougher.

Daboll 2.0 which is fine, Daboll was competent. But again, people underestimating what Allen does for the OC. Look at the play to Ty Johnson. That’s the difference between us pulling away and being in a dog fight.

The good news is that the teams with openings this year are crappy situations. Hopefully Brady has learned how important the organization from top down is important to his success as a HC. 
 

He was an OC in Carolina before he was here. He has seen what having no QB and a bad owner does to a HCs job security.

I’m thinking he doesn’t get a job this year.  What he’s done this year is great, but it’s only been one year.  You add that plus his one year of success in Carolina, and I don’t know if teams will view that as enough performance to give him a team.  
 

Also, Josh might devalue some of his performance as an OC. 
 

I could definitely see us losing him next year if this performance continue.

When the Bills hired him, I had the (mistaken?) impression they were throwing him a bone by offering him a job when he didn’t have one. 
 

Right place, right time, right QB and now the guy is suddenly a genius. Glad to see these young guys getting opportunities instead of the same retreads.

I don’t understand why Kingsbury isn’t mentioned more.  Mariotta looked exactly like Daniels each time he’s gone in.  
 

Seems like the logical fit in Chicago even more so than Ben Johnson - who I think fits Jacksonville or Dallas.

Money isn't the only thing that drives these guys. I get it pay him like a HC but a lot of these NFL guys are driven to be a HC and run their own program and gobs of money wont stop that from happening. These guys have wanted the top job since they got into coaching including Brady who has already said as much in his press conference.
