Why does the NFL allow a third party group of sportscasters and journalists decide who is the NFL MVP and NFL All Pro(s)?? Wouldn’t the NFL want to control that list? I feel like each teams GM and/or Head Coach should get the votes, with a rule that you can’t vote for anyone on your own team. this reminds me of how they used to award the college football “National Champion “. Two polls- and coaches poll and the journalists poll. Uhh which group do you think knew more about the best football team? The football coaches or the nerds in the press box? at least these days, it seems like more and more former players have votes. Maybe you should stick to sprinkling pixie dust? In all pro sports, MVP is chosen by the sports writers. Quote
Offside Number 76 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 17 hours ago, Rew said: It's not a league award. It is literally the Associated Press's list of awards that they made up and award how they see fit. The NFL has neither the ability, or desire to stop outside parties from discussing and driving traffic to the NFL. There are other MVP awards given, like PFWA, PFF, yahoo, and other media orgs. The only thing that makes the AP unique is that the NFL decided over the last decade to host the "NFL Honors" as an additional league event where 20ish awards (most or all from 3rd parties) are announced and the AP was given the honor of presenting a series of their awards. I suppose you could consider these "sanctioned" by the NFL. The AP (and other media) has a bunch of awards that they give outside of NFL honors (like All Pro). This is a perfect explanation. To add to it, it's only "sanctioned" because player contracts mention it. I could start my own MVP award. No one would care, but I could. (And I'd give it to Dan Campbell even though he's not a player.) 1 hour ago, ColoradoBills said: Vic Carucci, WGRZ radio WGRZ radio is not a thing. Quote

I think they are more likely to vote for the guys they like and are friends with versus the "nerds" who will look at it more objectively and without as much bias. Many of the former players are terrible analysts and got their jobs because of their names, not because they are good journalists or football analysts. Some of them do minimal work and collect a paycheck. That being said, some of them are pretty good, like Orlovsky. It's a fraternity You're either a part of it or you're not Quote

There are a lot of other voters for the MVP. Sal mentioned on the morning show Monday, and I know he Movin the Chains guys vote as well. if they rob Josh again, bleep them. The best response is beating the Ravens by 20. Quote

Ethan in Cleveland Posted January 15 Posted January 15 You know the HOF is also voted in by media members as well. Hall of Fame inductees are elected by a 49-person Selection Committee, which are revealed near the Super Bowl. There is a Selector from the city of each NFL team, plus 17 additional "at-large Selectors." There are no term limits for members of the committee, but they are annually reviewed by the Hall of Fame's Board of Trustees Quote
ColoradoBills Posted January 15 Posted January 15 NFL Awards are nice to have. I do think many fans are taking them way too seriously. Let's remember that it's sportswriters that vote and sportswriters are the ones making this a bigger thing than it is. Hmmmm, maybe they just want to be more important than they really are and getting more clicks by making it a "controversy", which also gets them more $s. I give all this only a modest amount of attention. Go Bills. Whoop the Ravens! Quote
