Mike McCarthy not returning to Dallas, Chicago and New Orleans possible landing spots.

Listening to some beat reporters here and it sounds like McCarthy had enough of jerrys negotiating.  He wanted McCarthy to take an incentive laden contract.  The Jones's are old school southern business men who think people that work for them are not worth anything.  

 

So apparently McCarthy said he was not interested this morning and apparently it caught the jones's by surprise.  I think they thought McCarthy would stay no matter what because his daughters love their schools and they are not finished with high school yet.

 

there is also some chatter that McCarthy was not thrilled with Prescott and Jerry and Stephen will not listen to criticism of Dak so there was another issue.

Not at all surprised by this. Good for McCarthy for sticking to his guns.

 

It was bush league not to allow him to interview in Chicago if this is ultimately what happened

Supposedly Jason Witten is going to be hired to coach in some capacity under whoever is the next head coach.  The thought is he will be groomed to take over in the future.

 

He has zero coaching experience.  He has spent the past two years coaching his kids at private rich kids school.  They have won a bunch of games.

 

This is like a step lower then when they hired Garrett as the OC before they hired Wade Phillips as the head coach in 07.  At least Garrett was a qb coach with nick saban in Miami for like two years.

 

This is some absurd stuff.  guys work 10 or 20 years to get into the league as coaches and get opportunities.

 

it also sounds like according to Bryan Broaddus that john gruden is in play because he will work on an incentive contract because he needs to rehab his image.  Jones and Gruden deserve each other.

That may be true, but they did McCarthy dirty. They denied him the opportunity to interview for head coaching positions just last week. Only one coaching spot was filled so it didn’t really matter, but that’s a shady move on Jerry’s part

I am not sure if it was Rodgers torching him publicly or what but McCarthy sure gets a lot of heat for a coach who has continually won.  He even won in Dallas with his QB missing a ton of games.   You could do a lot worse than McCarthy.

The already had a meddling owner who makes the whole situation toxic, and then he prevents the coach everyone knows he's going to fire from interviewing with other teams until his contract expires. They're going to have to scrape the barrel for their next coach.

I believe it was contract length not incentives that caused this to break down.
