Some coaches are good at building culture, shaping a locker room and creating year by year consistency.   But they just don’t have what it takes to finish the job and win a championship.

McDermott may be a good coach.  He may even be a great coach.  But at some point, you can’t just ignore the playoff failures.  Defense is supposed to be what he brings to the table.  The road to the Super Bowl goes through the same guys every season (Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow).  If he can’t figure out how to slow down those guys, we are just spinning our wheels.

A lot of Bills fans are so terrified of possibly going back to the old drought days… they would be content stay in this cycle the rest of Josh Allen’s career.

This is exactly how I feel. Great man and coach. But at some point if this continues we have to make a change. I am rooting for him though and would absolutely loved to be proven wrong.

Mahomes yes and Burrow used to be.  Gonna be even harder for the Bengals once Burrow's contract hits, they have to pay Chase and let Higgins go.  I still have no faith in Lamar in the playoffs.

They have on early downs a few times over the last month.

I think they've been feeling it out just for this matchup and expect to see Dorian Williams out there at times next week, particularly in the first half.

I hope you're right. It would be refreshing to see them address their defensive liabilities against the Ravens pre-emptively with a game plan that employs the 4-3 on early downs. Watching Henry chew them up without a plan to try and contain it would be akin to watching AJ Klein predictably fail in the KC game last year.

5.3 yards per play.

2 for 9 on third down.

42 offensive plays.

224 total yards of which 43 yards came on the Franklin TD

Nice try.

Yeah but the Bills brought in Franklin for interviews THREE TIMES!

So he has to have an elite defensive performance against arguably the highest powered offense in the league (Baltimore) and one of the greatest QBs and HC/OCs in NFL history (KC), in order to exercise his demons?

No, the defense cant’t be the primary reason we lose. Thats all. No speed racing. No domination.

I don’t think anyone has ever complained about McD against rookie QBs. Kind of a weird victory lap to be taking.

Exactly.... I hope that I am wrong but I know for certain that the Ravens are going to give our D a fit next week.   No one on this board expected a rookie qb to travel to OP and dice up any D.

I bet if they loose next week there will be less sarcasm on this board.

Conversely,  if McD and his Defense can be good next week and get a W,  I believe that this JA17  led offense can and will win it all.

We are on to Baltimore.

GO BILLS!

Well yes.  Of course.

Until the Bills get past those teams and win the Super Bowl, they will be known as a strong regular season team that chokes in the playoffs.  As they should.

Well considering no team in the league is able to completely shut down Lamar or Mahomes, we might as well head to the Bahamas now.

A more neutral stance and a “win” in my eyes would be McDs defense doing enough to keep Baltimore and hopefully KC in check, so that the offense doesn’t have to put up 50 points.

That is the recipe in my opinion, let our offense win the game.

McDermott only made two coaching errors today

1. Defensive TO - if he practiced what he preaches about learning from mistakes he would realize this strategy is not working

2. Leaving Allen in the game too long amd letting Brady call pass plays. Allen got hit high twice and low once on the final 5 plays he was in. That was just stupid.

You take time outs sometimes if you put an alignment out there and you don’t like the look the offense giving.  Why is this a criticism?

I wouldn't have had Josh play in the 4th quarter unless in emergency.  The Broncos were down 21 points and one-dimensional at that point and the defense had their number.

Time Outs should be almost always saved for Offense and ball control/clock management. If you are taking a defensive time out it's because you are surprised in a mistake you shouldnt have made in the first place.

This isnt just a "criticism of McD" as much as a general rule of thumb.

3. Being asleep at the wheel for the fake punt when the whole world knows Payton loves doing that stuff is another one.

4. And luckily Coach Upright stepped in and made a big stop at the end of the 1st half after our Defense went into some weird prevent(?) D that let the Broncos and rookie QB march right down the field in their 2min drill, in like 5 plays.

Yes but when up as much as they were as late in the game as it was, not problem with taking on the defensive side either.  It broke the little momentum Denver had too.

We win and people argue over the quality of the opponent or that it wasn’t the SB. Sums up the board.
