Johnny Hammersticks Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Okay, so I’m sitting here watching ESPN wild card weekend hype on television, and it seems like every ten seconds there is a commercial for these whole body deodorant bars/sprays. First it was that Mando lady all over the place, and now I see Marshawn spraying his junk with a Dove product every time I glance at the television. I’m sure there are others that aren’t coming to mind right now. Here’s my thoughts. Is there really public demand such that these products are so widely advertised? Also, if someone’s personal hygiene is sufficient, why would their nether regions emanate odors that other people in the same room could actually be offended by the stench? If you bathe regularly and your genitals or butt still stink up the room you are NASTY. What are we doing here? Am I alone? I find this to be repugnant and disgusting. 🤢 😂 1 6 Quote

PastaJoe Posted January 11 Posted January 11 The commercials are meant to create demand. People are persuaded they have a problem that doesn’t exist. 2 Quote

Expand There was another dad on my son’s basketball team who would seek me out at every gym we went to. I think he thought we were friends, but it got to the point other people didn’t want to be around me, because they knew he would show up and they didn’t want to have to create distance in his presence because it was awkward when people ran from his stench. So there I was. 🤢 🤮 I’m not saying he needed full body deodorant, but at the very least a very long walk in the rain would be a nice start and make the world a better place. It was horrific, and my wife and son still kid me about it decades later. There was no escaping him! If I went to the restroom or concession stand and took a different seat, he’d hunt me down all over again! 1 Quote

dpberr Posted January 11 Posted January 11 My theory: Younger generations of men (after Gen X) do not shower as often as generations before them, or potentially - know how to shower properly. You have to clean everywhere. I also wouldn't assume they know how to properly wash clothes and linens - especially washcloths (if they use them) and towels. The little pod doesn't take the germs away. So everything, after a while, can have an odor. There are a lot of families without dads to teach in modern society, and hardly any school has Home Econ. anymore where the Home Econ. teacher goes over detergent vs. bleach, how to wash your whites, etc. I personally find women who do not wash their hair for days gross. 1 Quote

Jauronimo Posted January 11 Posted January 11 At first I thought it was preying on women's insecurities. Women are highly insecure so make sure to tell your wife she's not fat everyday. "You're not fat! You're pretty" even if you have to lie a little bit. But now I'm guessing with rising rates of obesity, a market has been created for whole body antiperspirant/deodarant. Lots of fat sweaty people out there and they sweat from everywhere. 1 Quote
Doc Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) As usual, it comes down to sex. It's so people can get down at any time without worrying about stinking/needing to take a shower first. It's one deodorant for the whole body instead of several and lasts up to 72 hours so convenience. And I agree that anyone who stinks likely doesn't know or care (Matthew McConaughey doesn't shower and think women dig it). This isn't meant for them. Edited January 11 by Doc 1 Quote
