I think like most fans, I've gone back & forth on McDermott, and have had my doubts at times.

But we're lucky.  No, he isn't the best coach, and I don't think I'd put him top 5. But he's top 10, and knows what he's doing. There is a LOT of bad coaching in the league.  McD has done a fantastic job this year - as good as anyone.

The playoff failures are obviously unfortunate - but we almost beat the champs last year with half of our defense hurt or out.  If KC had the same injuries, and we were as healthy as them, we probably win that game by 2+ scores.

I definitely go back and forth.  Overall, yes, he’s a great guy and very good coach.  My concern, as with many people, is what is he going to do to get over the “KC hill” in the playoffs.  This year, IMO, will be telling.   We've have 4 consecutive years in the playoffs, and 4 consecutive years beat… largely due to defensive deficiencies.   We’ve all seen that.  We've all discussed the injuries, philosophies, and decisions that led to the team's losses.

My issue is mostly that it seems each year McD and the FO just stick to the same plan and hope for a better outcome.  They're steady, consistent, follow their process.  They need to change something, and if they can't then no matter how good they are …we need a change at the top.   This year… we'll see.  I'm optimistic because the team seems to be healthy.  But that's by design.  They've managed the roster and the game plans, since the bye to be healthy.  They've intimidated that they're saving things for the playoffs.  Have they?  Will it be enough?  Do they have new wrinkles in the defensive and offensive game plans to throw each opponent off?  Can they actually turn it up a notch when needed?   This is the playoffs, steady and consistent, doing what you did all year won't get you to the Super Bowl.   Hopefully, they finalize realize that.  For me, that's what McD needs to do to finally turn that last corner to go from being a good coach.. to a great coach.

Go Bills!

:13 seconds was one hell of a "class-clown prank" you pulled, Sean.

All true. But Pegula is sending a message pre playoffs. He’s my guy and he’s not getting fired anytime soon.

Allen looks more relaxed and composed… McDermott looks more relaxed and composed… the team seems like they’re having a great time… makes you wonder just how toxic Diggs was in that locker room.

The narrative with McDermott over the years is that he has been " tight" in the big games and his team then played that way. Might be true to some extent. So let's hope if he has changed, if he is more relaxed and confident in the playoffs his team will also feed off of that.

Not as tired as the defense of his screw ups, and the inability to find a great pass rusher, big 1 tech or a WR who is a threat and can get separation.

Mine was a joke. I like McDermott quite a bit.

but also, if you were to think about :13 seconds as an elaborate prank McDermott has been planning since high school, it’s kind of funny… like, a laughing-through-the-pain kind of funny, right?

Criticizing other’s posts accomplishes nothing and adds nothing.

I don’t know why you post crap like that.

It is the absolute worst part of any online discussion.

Telling others the opinion they should have is so ridiculous. People who do that might as well discuss football with themselves in front of a mirror.

EVERY team has holes. That’s just a fact of life.

This was supposed to be a down year, and yet here we are. I’ll watch it play out and hope for the best. Next season we will have more cap space and plenty of draft capital, so maybe we can improve some of our weak spots.

People keep saying this as some sort of defense mechanism.

Do you think Allen entered this year thinking it will be a down year? That Super Bowl wasn't the goal?

Absolutely not. He did podcasts and said the Super Bowl was their aim this year.

Only people saying this should be a down year was the media.

I've advised a few people here to seek professional help if they're still that frazzled over a football game.

There's Nervous Mafia, then there's the SOFT ZONE FIRE MCDERMOTT 13 SECONDS!!!!!! Cult.  Who insist on living in the past and reliving past failure.

God it's dull.

The bold is simply not true, and I think you know that. You just don’t like it.  We get that.  We lost a LOT of veteran leadership and the cap is a problem. I know many, many Bills fans who are not in the media who expected this year to be one of adjustment and challenges.

And it’s not a defense mechanism. You labeled it that to push your agenda. I’m just looking at the situation. “Realist” can be used in different ways.

Of course Josh and the team didn’t give up on the season before it began. That is irrelevant and ignores the facts.

Even if someone had *thought* that, they were clearly proven wrong, considering the 13-3 record (not counting the Pats beating our practice squad).

You KNOW that many people expected a down year. (I’d actually love to see that old poll for expected wins, and hope it’s public.) That is the point. The Bills have done better than expected, but some people don’t want to give them credit for their success. They just find things to complain about. Like 13 seconds. STILL.  Get help already!

Is this not akin to saying: "I expect the world to blow up tomorrow!"

Tomorrow comes and the world doesnt blow up.

"Wow, today is amazing! The world didnt blow up! We have beaten expectations!"

Making artificially low expectations to praise the same results we have accomplished for the past half decade is low brow IMO.

It is exactly what I typed.

I’m not having this stupid conversation with you. AGAIN. Only one team wins, it doesn’t mean everyone else had a terrible year.  We shouldn’t be typing with you if you weren’t #1 in your class every year.

This is more akin to…….a conversation I don’t want to bother having with you.

Have a nice football weekend.
