guy was a flash in the pan with 1 decent season years ago.  Mentally and physically soft.

Titans, Jets, Bears are close....but Browns have the worst ownership/organization for a generation.  With the way the draft is organized and revenue sharing, as an owner, you would have to actively be sabotaging your own team to have made the decisions Haslam (a legit crook) has made over the years.

Yeah, as I said in the other thread,  the insurance company isn't just going to roll over and pay off a lost season when he has almost a full year to recover and play *some* football at least.   Aaron Rodgers tore his in the opener in 2023 and was damn near ready to go 4 months later.    They will expect Watson to be ready by September.

He tore it again like last week and just had a second surgery. He wouldn't be ready until 2026 minicamp at the earliest.

Has had surgery again. Likely to miss the 2025 season.

Karma definitely got the Browns on that deal.

Cleveland is the only place where Karma still exists, apparently.

I'm glad none of this worked out for them.

It remains... a factory of sadness...

Does this allow for any sort of negotiated injury settlement? (Not sure Watson has any incentive to do that though). But Watson probably cares more about the cash than the cap hit, and if there is something that allows the Browns to get out from the cap situation, he might be willing to help with that.

The reason this might be plausible is if he doesn't want to play anymore. If they demanded he play and he refused, it would be breach of contract so it's not beyond the realm that the two parties could settle.

But karma also worked out in the owners' favor - from their perspective, this was the best possible outcome after Haslam gave out that fully-guaranteed megadeal that I am sure terrified and outraged all other 31 owners.  Now it will be years, if ever, before someone tries that again.

Watson's contract was unprecedented. I doubt it's a cautionary tale because it never happened before and I doubt many owners would have followed suit even if this hadn't turned into a complete disaster.

GOOD.

Watson's still getting paid at this point so only one party is being punished for their misdeeds... the Browns.

Haven’t heard any conspiracy theories about how this is all planned between Watson and the Browns to end the entire relationship once and for all.  Watson can disappear into the sunset and the Browns can take the hit and move on.

The conspiracy theory is that this was done to give both sides an out. The other possible scenario is if the re-injury stemmed from a prohibited activity. If that were the case the Browns would be trying to void the contract.

Hey, did you guys hear Haslam paid Watson $500k cash off the books to let them whack his achilles again, cause it to rupture, and all for the purpose of them being able to end the relationship once and for all?

Why would Watson do that?

Chicago has had a curse over it with their offense

Chicago has been cursed and it has been blessed. Since 1985 Bears the city has won done well. The Cubs and White Sox have each won a World Series, the Blackhawks have won 3 Stanley Cups and the Bulls have won 6 NBA Championships. So since 1985 the city has had 12 world championships. Not Boston but not bad.

That is by so very the very worst trade in NFL history. They traded away the most valuable thing they had for several years to get a guy who since arriving has been abysmal. He is a PR nightmare, costs a ton of money, and sucks on the field, quite the triple threat to the team

Not only that, the team sold their soul to acquire Watson. They offended many decent people by trading for him.
