Haven’t heard any conspiracy theories about how this is all planned between Watson and the Browns to end the entire relationship once and for all.  Watson can disappear into the sunset and the Browns can take the hit and move on.

That's where I'm at.

Cut Watson, trade away anyone else you can (like Garrett to the Bills, lol).

Trade your 2025 picks for a ton of 2026 ammo

Hire David Culley as your 2025 HC

Try again in a year or two.

Agree, except they can't cut Watson this year.  Way too much dead cap.  Has to be in the beginning of 2026.

I say that because they need some of that cap space when they trade away Garrett, etc.

For those thinking the Brown can cut Watson at the start of the 2025 season, his cap hit would be $173M.

They could do it.

The Browns will probably do that but IMO they shouldn't

Browns are eating $73M in cap the next 2 years for Watson PLUS $27M in void dead cap in 2027.

They also already have $40M currently in Dead Money for 2025.  $22M is for Cooper.

Drafting a QB in a weak class with NO MONEY is suicidal.  I expect them to do that because they are idiots.

They will not be able to field a competent team until 2027.  Drafting a QB now is a waste of time IMO.

They should trade the 2nd overall for 2026 picks and totally tank in 2025.

Why would Stefanski and the GM tank when their jobs are on the line. They would care less about grabbing a boatload of picks for the next HC and GM. The only way to turn it around for their sakes is to find a QB to get them to the playoffs. With no cash they better either hope Winston finds the no TO juice or draft a rookie who’s a hit. If Ward or Sanders bust it’s not their problem in year 2

Hey, did you guys hear Haslam paid Watson $500k cash off the books to let them whack his achilles again, cause it to rupture, and all for the purpose of them being able to end the relationship once and for all?

But karma also worked out in the owners' favor - from their perspective, this was the best possible outcome after Haslam gave out that fully-guaranteed megadeal that I am sure terrified and outraged all other 31 owners.  Now it will be years, if ever, before someone tries that again.

Supposedly the other owners immediately let agents know that his contract with Cleveland and trade haul would not set a new market and to not even dream of expecting anything similar just because the Browns were stupid.

Watson is done as a player.

He busted his ACL, had shoulder surgery, a ruptured achilles and now a re-rupture.

If I'm the Browns I'm swallowing the medicine, eating that contract and just taking the best QB on the board at 2.

I don’t think the Browns can eat the contract.  The dead cap would be so large that they wouldn’t be able to field a 53 man roster.  I think they’re stuck for two more years.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.

First and most importantly I posted what I said SHOULD happen.  I also said they won't.

Browns (on top of the $'s I gave) start the year $42M over the cap. They cannot put a team together with this money.

If I was Haslam I would decide IF I wanted them to stay.  If I did, then they are there for the next 5 years.

Not like it goes that well when they field 53 guys anyways. Try it with 35, see what happens. Its the Browns.

I feel for Browns fans. I can feel their pain. I have a buddy who is a Browns fan, which is a very hard thing to be.

No doubt. It has to be brutal.  As Bills fans, we've seen the team we love make incredibly bad decisions too. Although, this was in a league of its own. Football is religion in Ohio. It must drive Browns fans even crazier watching Buffalo and Detroit enjoy such success, while their team continues to screw up the most important position in sports.  Oh, as an added kick in the teeth, they get to watch their castaway Mayfield, in the playoffs.

Beyond brutal.  My heart goes out to them.

Just setting the grounds for an injury settlement..  He'll be out of the league soon enough. He'll get compensated and the Browns will save cap space.

Or, is it more likely that the bum was lazy and cut corners in rehab?

You beat me to it bro'.  POShaun Watson deserves nothing but pain the rest of his miserable life.

lol I’m sure he is going to be okay but I agree I wish there was a way they could void the guarantee

Watson's life is a Greek tragedy.  He was a very talented QB who seemed to be a respectful, courteous, hard-working young hero.  But his libido got the best of him and he compromised his morals & ethics.   And now his body is failing him.

This is a sad - if well deserved - fall from grace.

This is also further proof that America is emphatically not a meritocracy.  People like soldiers, sailors, police officers and firefighters often work diligently for the public good for peanuts while anti-heroes like Watson get millions.

alternate view

watson was a stat padder on bad teams and a despicable sex pest who conned the browns into the worst contract in NFL history

Unless Daddy Prime does a Archie and tells his kid to not play for the Browns. As bad ownership, bad team, bad weather.  etc

I haven't seen this reported anywhere, but I'm curious how he managed to re-rupture the same achilles only a few months after the initial injury.

Incompetent doctors/treatment?

Did he go against medical advice?

Was he doing something potentially banned by his contract? EG riding a motorcycle, surfing, etc. (Note: I have no idea if Deshaun had any activities like that banned in his contract, but other players have had those stipulations).

Depending on what exactly happened I could see the Browns trying to void Watson's contract. Or Watson suing the (team?) doctors
