Yeah. It didn’t help that Mayfield needed to grow up. He has made strides there and has become a better QB and I’m guessing leader.

I agree with the first 3 seasons in Cleveland.  His last I thought he showed some leadership and guts playing through that bad shoulder.

He also came out this offseason and took the blame for it.  Stefanski and Berry do not get nearly enough blame for souring so quickly on Mayfield.  They were out on him which opened the door for going after Watson.  Could have had Mayfield for half the money and retained the draft capital.  That is on the football people in Cleveland.  The owner bellied up to the table to fix the problem.  If he wasn't convinced Baker wasn't the answer the move doesn't take place.

Baker also played with an injury like a fool. I don't blame owner looking for a replacement. Granted the guaranteed money etc was horrible in retrospect.

Right.  Why doesn't Stefanski get any blame for kicking Mayfield out.  If he wanted him he would still be there.

He was a 3 time Pro Bowler following a strong rookie season that got ruined with an injury. He looked like was going to be a top 3-5 QB his last played season in Houston.

yes, that was the flash in that pan---so many years ago.

Watson has 1 more Pro Bowl than the great Vince Young, and only 2 more than the immortals Mitch Trubisky and Mac Jones.

Last year at this time, the Browns had not 1 but 2 "Pro Bowlers" on the roster:  Watson and the great Tyler Huntley!

And the ONLY reason Huntley made it there was as an alternate after our Unicorn Josh Allen opted out.

Mayfield also had perhaps the craziest start to his career in a coaching standpoint

He joined a roster that had won 1 game in 2 seasons and kept the coach for some reason. That coach got fired midway through his season, as did his OC

The coach that replaced them and somewhat stabilized the situation was none other than Gregggggg, who was then fired and replaced with the guy that replaced the previously fired OC.
Then that guy was fired after 1 year and replaced with Stefanski and baker nearly got them to the afc title game that year. Then Covid happened and he got hurt

That’s a hell of a way to start a career
