Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 9 Posted January 9 One of the reasons for the Bills’ success this year has been their amazing efficiency in the red zone. About 72%!! we sort of take it for granted, but they have run the ball very effectively near the goal line and have schemed open some other very nice plays (as well Josh’s usual magic). https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/red-zone-scoring-pct 7 1 1 Quote
Success Posted January 9 Posted January 9 That's fantastic. It does seem like we score in a pretty wide variety of ways once we get close to the endzone. I think we'd be tough for a DC to plan against in that situation. 1 Quote
Giuseppe Tognarelli Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Nice em dash, although I'm not sure what process you followed to create it since there is a space after it, almost suggesting that you inserted it manually. Quote
WotAGuy Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Denver’s D allows 47% red zone TDs. Buffalo 57%. Strength vs strength in several areas. 3 Quote

Buffalo is gonna have to be great against the Broncos in the red zone. If they can do it against this defense, they can do it against anybody. 1 Quote
Nephilim17 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Very glad to see KC is just 22nd overall at just 53.85%. But I think those bastards step it up in the playoffs. Hope not but they play their best this time of the year. Quote

T master Posted January 9 Posted January 9 They will need to be at 72% and Babich will need all of his guys to step it up a notch because that is the Bills weakest link, if the D can pick it up and keep the pressure on them Bills should have no problem out scoring them . 1 Quote

The only way the Bills win the SB is if this offense keeps rolling. We dont have a defense this year that gets stops on 3rd down, let alone 3 and outs. The defense though is surprisingly good at getting INTs and recovering fumbles (Near the top on INTs and #1 for fumble recoveries). We are middle of the pack for most other stats. But we are playing the big boys now and we need to be almost flawless. It will be excruciating to watch if our defense dies by a thousand cuts in their soft zone against good teams. I would love for our defensive coaches to try and mix it up with the schemes in these games. I would also love to see our pass rush come together to force these good playoff Qbs into some bad decisions. Edited January 9 by Livinginthepast 1 1 Quote

Many studies have been done and they essentially show there is no "skill" at recovering fumbles, it is random. The Bills are far outperforming what their expected recovery rate would be now and it's likely to revert to the mean at some point, which could happen at any time and if it happens now it will be when we need them the most. I am wondering if Babich gets more aggressive than what we have seen from McD and Frazier...perhaps that is one thing he realized in these games and why he gave the reigns to Babich in the hopes he will be better in those situations. There just isn't enough talent on this defense. But they are good at takeaways. As strengths go, that's a scary one because it's unreliable. We won't get takeaways every game. As you say, the offense needs to keep rolling. Quote

I think we will be pleasantly surprised by this defense in the playoffs. Gut feeling. Re-watching highlights from some of the earlier season games, and I have faith they have it in them. Quote
Chicken Boo Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I hate statistics like this popping up right before the post-season begins. Quote
