I live about 15 miles from the Pacific Palisades. The fire is nowhere near SoFi stadium. Not even close.

I’m sure the NFL and local authorities will take your input into consideration.

Is the stadium downwind or are they clean there?

They should. I lost a house to a wildfire some years ago.

The stadium is more or less crosswind from the smoke plume, which blowing out towards the ocean. These events are much more localized than a hurricane or blizzard.

Sorry to hear that.

I imagine the availability of emergency response crews also plays into the decision whether to move the game. Watching the news feed of the fires and devastation is heartbreaking.

I guess the real question should be, would a bunch of heavy game day traffic create problems for crews trying to deal with that nightmare?

Thanks….you learn you can get through just about anything.

As far as the current fire goes you’d be surprised how you can be just a few miles from the fire and have almost no idea that anything is happening at all. It’s perfectly calm and sunny at my house this afternoon. If I look out just the right window I can see the smoke plume over the hillside.

Absolutely not. The freeways were all open this morning for the regular commute. Neither fire is near a major freeway

Yes, and that can all change in the blink of an eye, as I’m sure you have experienced. I’m surprised you are so dismissive of the situation relative to the game considering your experience.

Nope. But my wife has been in tears watching the news and the suffering of so many people. I’m sure the LA officials have more to deal with than worrying about whether a game gets played there.

They should move the game to Cincinnati, so they can get a playoff game!   But seriously, it’s bad out there in LA.   Hope people can stay safe.

It's gotta be at Met-Life.  That's the only way they'll ever be a playoff game there.

With all due respect, it’s a tough situation for sure. Again, I personally LOST MY HOUSE!!!  But the current fire is nowhere near SoFi Stadium

I've lived in LA 66 years and I've never seen sustained winds 60-80 mph like this for 2 days. I'm evacuated and hoping the Eaton fire calms down.  Going to be a rough night.

Lived at the foot of the Cajon Pass for decades…..tell me about it. Winds are brutal. Be safe!

Hope all goes well for you. There’s 5 fires now as I understand it.

Kind of like the evil twin of "Lake Effect".

Crazy this is happening in January...apparently California wildfire season is year round now and they have 78 more "fire days"(where weather is conducive for wildfires) every year than 50 years ago.

https://calmatters.org/explainers/california-wildfire-season-worsening-explained/

This La Nina has been worse than any previous one. LA has not seen a drop of rain since last March.  The wind events used to be more predictable Santa Ana's from the NE.  But this windstorm has been swirling in 4 directions.  And the level of sustained winds have been historical.  Our family already knows 3 family/ friends who've lost their homes.

Rather similar. Very localized.

Snow I can shovel, and my Outback has new snow tires.

I lived in south Orange County for 10 years in the shadow of Saddleback.  I remember one year (I think it was 1988) coming back up from San Diego, just where I-5 turns inland from the coast at Dana Point.  There was a big fire on the Elsinore side of Saddleback, and from the Pacific coast the mountain looked like an erupting volcano.  A volcano in front of my house.  Went home, got all the papers and critical items in the car and waited.  Man, that's a helpless feeling.  "You sail away from the light of the world on this trip, baby."

Thanks @WotAGuy...the closest one to us here in La Crescenta is the Eaton which has beat the crap out of Altadena. My son's future in laws lost their home this morning. Pray the winds ddon't shift to SW.

Saw some live remotes from Altadena this afternoon and it looks terrible.  During one remote there was an elderly woman with two dogs on a bench on the street, waiting for her granddaughter to pick her up but the granddaughter couldn’t get to her because the roads were closed. The reporter asked a truck driver if he could take the lady to a spot where she could meet her granddaughter.

They also showed a nursing home being evacuated while embers were flying all  around them. A couple hours later the nursing home was gone.

Just a terrifying situation and I hope you and yours remain safe.
