Banks are going to make a killing off this, followed by real estate developers.

There is a ban on land sales to developers.

while I read this insurance news I feel physically ill for the fire victims.

Lord have mercy.

The stress of this will take more lives. If after losing all my possessions I was told SORRY we're not helping you too bad so sad. Lawsuits indeed. While time drags on SMH BLECH

And as hubby went out to get pizza tonight he shares that here in San Diego they are announcing a red flag fire alert here on Monday into Tuesday.

SMH

I'm tired of this fire #######  Im sad Im mad and Im frustrated with this event.

I can’t say I’m crazy about having the government or anyone else telling me what I can or cannot do with my property.

What Im thinking of is when banks are sitting on big tracts of land at the end of this whatever policy they made to prevent sales to developers is either going to get end arounded or go away because they aren't going to just sit there with empty land that's worth a fortune. They couldn't sell a lot to a builder to build a home on it? They could sell a commercial piece to a company that want to rebuild a store? Seems unlikely. Once that's possible, or if it's limited to builders of a certain size then all the brand new subsidiary companies come into play.

FEMA disaster declaration areas don’t fare well anytime soon, if ever. Most of the wealthy there won’t wait around.

I know this is too soon, and I don’t want to sound insensitive, but I’m sure there are many similarities to recovery from a major hurricane strike. Clean up, then rebuild. After Hugo destroyed Charleston it was surreal, with yachts in the middle of the roads downtown and all kinds of other bizarre sights. All the crappy old properties and billboards were destroyed, and eventually replaced by something brand new. Insurance adjusters and construction workers rushed to the area and started to replace what was lost.

As tragic as it was, it provided tremendous economic stimulation. We were busier than ever at the bank because everybody had needs. Charleston was a much nicer place a couple years following Hugo than it was before. I know that is no consolation to people who have lost everything, but I’m trying to find a silver lining. That’s about all I got….

Hence the tracts of empty land in a very desirable place.

The cleanups, soil toxicity concerns, potential for landslides, etc., development there will be more talk than action for years.

And the less dangerous areas to live wither on the vine... AND they pay into the areas that don't mitigate the risks responsibly.

I don't wish anyone harm... But it's just stuff. Without hurting anyone, it would be nice getting new infrastructure...  We sure need it here!

WTF?

yes and also a fire in east Poway. The winds need to calm down before we socal folks can let our guard down. I have an emergency bag packed because these fires  can pop off and spread fast. I live between 2 canyons in a suburban neighborhood.

pfft I was driving in some gridlock just now after a Dr appt. I thought there was a traffic accident. Nope. Fire approx 5 miles from my house.

SMH I just got through before the huge gridlock occured due to I-15 closure at Camino del sur.

If it hops to Black Mountain la casa Muppeta would be at risk. But that is  a LOT of distance and SDFD will fight tooth and nail to prevent just that.

Lord have mercy.

EDIT: They've got this fire pretty much under control. Lots of worry due to how populated an area this fire encroached upon. Evacuation area where people were directed to go if evacuated from their homes at a near retail area. . A lot of people already at work but this occured fast. schools went into lockdown. This info Im gleaning from CBS 8 preempted programming coverage. Carmel Mountain road area. it's all San Diego it just blends into neighborhoods. Mine is Rancho Penasquitos. Black Mountain   If you see that on the TV it's not good news

we had to open the fence gate on our side yard because the wind has blown it off twice already during past Santa Ana events. Seeing the wind whip around the eucaluptus trees from side to side is creepy. Those go up like matchsticks during a fire. We and my neighbors have cleared trees and dry brush in a safe distance around our house. But I see them across the canyon from me

We do what you can do to gtry to mitigate risk  and hope for the best.

The feeling is weird. It's like waiting for something to happen which Might. Or might not. And if and when it does it could be QUICK

but you TRY not to worry too much because it's not healthy nor helps a single bit.

me writing about it is helping lessen some anxiety that follows ME around.

Again, unimaginable and incomprehensible to grasp. After seeing the horror in L.A., that is still ongoing, it be only natural thinking the same can happen there. I briefly watched the San Diego NBC affiliate, it seems there’s a level of confidence not seen in L.A.

On a side note, is Law the last name of those brothers? 🙃

San Diego has had fires that go from an area called scripps ranch across 14 lanes of the I-15 freeway. .east to west  a 6 lane in each direction plus carpool lanes in the middle.  North and south I-15 had flames cross due to the winds.   The Cedar fire  ripped through eucalyptus groves and decimated  a lot of homes.   After that debacle San Diego geared Up and invested a TON into fire prevention infrastructure.

we were evacuated for that one

so far since nothing horrible here like what has occurred in LA .  It breaks my heart

lol I had to Google. those guys do some crazy TV ads. they are apparently not just a California firm. this is what Google said

The Law Brothers are Shawn and Shervin Lalezary, brothers who founded the personal injury law firm of the same name.

Here we go again

Huge new fire North of Valencia/Castaic in the Lake Hughes area. Over 20,000 people being evacuated.  30 mph winds and in 3 hours this fire has already burned well over 5000 acres. 🙏

Yes, my friends who take me boating on Castaic Lake have been evacuated. The fire is now > 9400 acres.

There have been air quality alerts for cities 40 miles away.
