Raiders had discussions with Belichick about becoming their HC

Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton, Bill Belichick in the same division. That would essentially eliminate the AFC West from the #1 seed for the immediate future.

Good old cash strapped Mark Davis, burrowing in sofa cushions for spare change to make it happen.  THAT'S  a 'commitment to excellence'.

How is he cash strapped with the NFL’s TV contracts.

The contention was in 2022 that they wouldn't fire Josh McDaniels as head coach, since they were still paying off Gruden's salary.

Whether or not spendthrift Davis has gotten any better with handing money is unclear, but it's a perception that has remained.

Much like the 'Ralph is cheap' sentiment that many in the area have regarding Ralph Wilson.  He was a generous philanthropist for the area as a whole, but many decisions regarding the Bills were regarded as miserly.

I don’t know about that. Look at the NFC North and the records there.

Young Belichick could be the next HC, and take part in UNC psychology department studies.

The rest of the NFC is pretty mid.

Dianna Russini on X: "Bill Belichick has no plans to return to the NFL, per sources. I’m told his sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future. He’s recruiting today in New Jersey." / X

It was reported by Cimini.  Seems legit.

He’s just feeling bad that he has to sit at the kids’ table.  It’s driving him mad that one of the 32 wouldn’t jump at him. I guess he’s got a major chip on his shoulder. Control freak. Burns bridges. My way or the highway.

I look forward to him being hired and flaming out one last time. He’ll then be forced to retire and work in the media he hates so much. Before being glazed into the hall of fame and then everyone will pretend that his temper tantrum never happened.

They put it on the internet, you can’t lie about stuff on the internet, had to be true.

I've seen this reported elsewhere too.

In a way, a college coach is coach/GM/everything and runs the entire football program. There's nobody above you weighing in on anything football related.

the AD and Board of Trustees will fire you if you don't win enough, but they aren't telling you who to recruit or who to sign or who to play. I can see Bill wanting to do it his way with his people and be left alone to coach and run the program, which will never happen in any NFL position.

If you're a legendary football coach in college everyone works for you in the athletic program in all practicality.

Maybe he could borrow some of the money from Gruden 🤑 .

I don't recall the details, but wasn't Gruden's conduct in the email scandal a legal wedge that allowed the Raiders organization to get out of some of the money owed, in that insanely high value coaches contract?
