I mean Flutie was. If he plays that game we probably win it. Starting Rob Johnson was one of the worst franchise decisions ever made

1. Flutie was definitely wronged, losing the starting job to a preseason exhibition game in week 16 was the most ridiculous coaching move ever. 

 

2. So obviously a forward pass. This must have been before video replays or coaches challenges??

 

I was 12 years old when this happened but I do remember watching on TV and being like WTF devastated.

Didn't we kick the FG to take the lead on third down and with a time out in our pocket?    We could have run the clock down more to say a couple seconds and that kickoff never happens

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said that the decision left him "a little surprised" given that Flutie had been the Bills' starter for the majority of the season. Years later, Phillips wrote that the decision to start Johnson came at the urging of Bills owner Ralph Wilson.

This was my earliest football memory. I was 10 years old. I prayed for a Bills win and when the illegal forward pass happened I thought God punished me for praying about football 😆

Very well could have been Bills/Rams in the SB that year, which just goes to show... if Kelly's body could have held up a few more years they finally could have faced a regular old NFC team instead of super team dynasties 

 

Imagine those Kelly, Andre, Bruce, Thurman Bills vs teams like the Carolina Panthers and STL Rams instead of the Pro Bowl rosters of Washington and Dallas

 

IMO Kelly's career would end like Elway's did, with finally getting over the hump and winning it all.

1st and 10, with 20 seconds left, no time outs.  They used the 2nd and 3rd timeout in the previous Titan drive.

My brother got robbed in Nashville a day or 2 before the MNF game a couple years ago when the Bills went for the win and Josh slipped on the QB sneak at the goal line. He was sitting in a bar at a table next to a window. The window was open. He took his wallet out of his pocket and set that and a couple of other things on the table. Just trying to get organized I guess. Somebody from outside jumped halfway through the window and snatched his wallet. My brother tried to chase the guy but he jumped on an electric scooter and sped off. Not as bad as your story but still pretty s*****

Thanks, memory was fuzzy on that.  So they still could have run a play and spiked it with less than 5 seconds to go.

Possibly.  

1st down - run and quickly get back to the line. 

2nd down - spike

3rd down - kick

he was ultimately fired after the 2000 season. they finished 8-8 but that wasn't what got him fired. RW demanded he fire special teams coach ronnie jones and wade refused to do so. RW fired them both.

1:20 mark, evidence that it was not a forward pass.  Camera angles and the position of each player’s bodies made it appear otherwise, but the ball went backward.  Denial is only the first step of grief.
