Sammy Watkins/Mike Evans Saga

Yes, this is hindsight and discussed ad nauseum, but here we are, 11 seasons later and that decision continues to linger.

 

They traded up to draft Watkins when they could’ve stayed where they were and taken Evans.  Sammy has been out of the league for 2 seasons now while Evans continues to put up 1,000 yard seasons with double digit touchdowns.

 

What could’ve been!

Had the Bills drafted Mike Evans they never would have drafter Josh Allen as they would have been just good enough to pass on him and stick with what they had.

Could we have taken Von instead? The exact order of picks slipped my old mind, but I think he was in play at our pick🤔

Khalil Mack was the story and who everyone though we traded up for. But I guess at our original spot we could have drafted Evans or Aaron Donald if I recall.

Von was the Dareus draft, and we had no shot at Von

Different draft. The draft you are thinking of was 2011. We were pick 3, Denver had pick 2. They took Von, we took Marcel Dareus.

No, the Bills could not have taken Evans at their original slot; he went before that.  They could, however, have stayed put and taken Aaron Donald or OBJ, among others.  BTW, Cleveland completely squandered the picks we traded them, IIRC.

They couldn't have stayed at their spot and taken Evans. He went #8 and the Bills were at #9 before the trade from memory. Evans was my guy that year though. He was, is and always has been a stud. He will end up with a gold jacket.

Correct — Evans went before the Bills’ original pick, which was #9.

I'm envisioning a story from the hinterlands that follows two central characters - Sammy and Mike - who find their way to enlightenment after traveling different roads.

If we stayed at #9 I wanted Taylor Lewan to give us book end tackles. I liked Donald a lot but I confess I was in the camp of "do you want to take a DT when you have Dareus and Williams?" The answer should, obviously, have been yes. I wanted no piece of Ebron, Barr or OBJ.

exactly, that is why the worst saga was Whitner over Ngata......

 

New HC with a new (old) GM, what they chose to build the foundation of the team? a safety over a steady clog in the middle of the DL....awful...
