Bengals fire Lou Anarumo.  Despite their defensive performance this year, I think Lou is a great coach and defensive mind.  I know we have Bobby Babich and I think he's done OK for a new DC, but man, would I love to have Lou Anarumo.

 

I think he's great at adjustments and customizing a defense on a game to game basis VS what we do.

They have plenty of talent on that side of the ball.   What he is a victim of is the ebb and flow of defense in the NFL. 

 

They lost their first three games by a total of 10 points and didn't recover.

I was worried for the Bills the last two times they faced his defense (and I was right to). 

 

Let's just hope he doesn't end up in the AFC East.

Small sample size, but he seems to be one of the few coaches that can slow down Allen. 

 

Wish he'd just go back to managing his pizza shops in Chicago.

This guy was the darling of the league like 2 or 3 years ago. Their defense was abysmal but the team also didn’t invest in the players. Mike brown is cheap and just likes shiny things that sell tickets: that’s why they have a few superstars and no depth.

Lou is a name that should be brought back.  I don’t know anyone under the age of 40 named Lou.

He would be a significant upgrade as defensive coordinator. Anyone saying otherwise is simply disconnected from reality.

We already talked about this in the Black Monday thread. All I'll say is that Bills fans are the only people who still like this guy. Bengals fans complain about a lack of in-game adjustments and his unwillingness to come out of zone defense to stop running teams. Sound familiar?

I like it for the Bills (and I’m sure Chiefs fans like it as well), because I don’t think the Bengals will find a better DC than Anarumo. When Spags was struggling in KC and the fans were calling for his head, I had hoped he’d be fired too, but that wasn’t the case and now he’s got that defense humming.

Agree. There’s some decent players on that defense and still a fair few guys who were on that 2021 team too. Secondary seems to be their problem, specifically cornerback. 

They need some more pass rush but the coverage isn’t there.

And this is why Brady should accept a head coach offer if he receives one…yesterday’s “hot coordinator” can become a scapegoat very quickly.

They are. The secondary is pretty horrible and other than Trey Hendrickson the front 7 isnt much better.

The complaints are actually very similar. Fans complain about soft zone and a lack of in-game adjustments. They also have Ravens and Steelers envy and want an aggressive D that mostly plays man coverage.

His defense is Swiss cheeeezzzze in the playoffs. Even made Phillip ole man Rivers look like 1990 Joe Montana

Clutch DC in playoffs but never had high ranked defenses. Justifiably fired as the reason they did t get in the playoffs this year. Also means if they fail again next year it will be Taylor getting the axe

We've never seen anything that sniffs clutch in the playoffs on D.....just sayin......
