DBilz2500 Posted Monday at 08:34 PM Posted Monday at 08:34 PM Does this wildcard game vs Denver remind anyone else of that 1996 game vs Jacksonville? Vet coach with a young QB, upstart team playing with nothing to lose, big home favorite with all the pressure on them? Maybe it’s my Bills paranoia setting in but I just can’t shake the feeling. 2 1 1 1 1 Quote
klos63 Posted Monday at 08:35 PM Posted Monday at 08:35 PM (edited) I thought the same. The difference with the Bills is that we were on the decline after our run. Edited Monday at 08:36 PM by klos63 2 1 1 Quote

No...that was at the end of the line for aging vets. Allen is in his prime. 8 9 3 Quote
Gregg Posted Monday at 08:36 PM Posted Monday at 08:36 PM (edited) No. Kelly and company were getting older and starting to decline. This Bills team is not that and Allen is going into his prime. Edited Monday at 08:37 PM by Gregg 4 Quote

WotAGuy Posted Monday at 08:38 PM Posted Monday at 08:38 PM Do the Broncos have Natrone Means? Otherwise, no. 2 3 Quote

You are right now that I think about it. 94 and 95 was when the decline was starting. In Kelly's defense his body started to break down. One of the toughest QB's ever with all of the hits he took. 1 1 Quote

mushypeaches Posted Monday at 08:39 PM Posted Monday at 08:39 PM Not even close I was at that game in 1996 and it was clear to all that we were hanging on to being a playoff team by the skin of our teeth Brunell was already a much more established QB as well 1 1 Quote
pkwwjd Posted Monday at 08:42 PM Posted Monday at 08:42 PM Just remember that Kelly's first SB year was year 7 of pro ball ... JA17 is there now! 2 Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted Monday at 08:44 PM Posted Monday at 08:44 PM It’s not really similar. Probably more like Patriots in 2021. Top 3 defense with a promising young QB and a Super Bowl winning head coach. It’s hard to compare different years though. It’s the playoffs, it’s going to be a tough game. 2 1 Quote
strive_for_five_guy Posted Monday at 08:46 PM Posted Monday at 08:46 PM WGR made the best comp I’ve heard, which is us hosting the Pats a few years back, although Nix worries me a lot more than Mac Jones ever did. Otherwise, can’t think of many other playoff matchups where we’ve hosted a young QB while our QB was in his prime. That said, this will be as tough a matchup as Nix has had his whole career so far, we’ll see how good he can look in our house against the best QB in the league. 1 1 Quote
Ray Stonada Posted Monday at 08:49 PM Posted Monday at 08:49 PM Was at that game with my mom. This Bills team is still in its prime, that team wasn’t. 1 1 1 Quote

Well I guess my memory is serving me poorly as I was only 12 years old at the time. I do remember us being a pretty big favorite and Thurman saying something before the game asking “who are the Jaguars anyway?” Quote

They weren’t very good the year before and IIRC they beat a slew of bad/average teams to squeak into the playoffs. This Denver team plays well but also hasn’t beaten that great teams this season Similar in some ways. Shouldn’t be overlooked imo Quote
