The fact McD would sit down with a person who effectively tried to do a character assassination piece on him a year or two ago speaks volumes to who he is, IMO.

More than anything, I think it shows that McD, much like many of these players want to win for us and this city so badly that it honestly might be putting too much pressure on themselves because they may care too much...I know it sounds weird, but that is a real thing.

This coach didn’t grow up in Buffalo but knows he’s become a Buffalonian to his core.

He takes it one step further. McDermott, a devout Christian, believes he was placed in this position as the team’s head coach for a “greater purpose.”

Imagining what a championship could do — for everyone — he pauses. He gets emotional.

“I bleed for that. I bleed for that win,” says McDermott, pointing to his chest. “And that’s real. What I want for people, for these fans, is for the true light to be shown on what this place really is.”

Ty's blog still going, huh?

Not only is it going, I think its thriving. He has multiple writers posting to it and covering many cities in the NFL.

Dissapointed that the WGR morning show didnt even mention the "past" between McD and Dunne in their interview with Dunne this AM. That article last year was highly defamatory to McD and made NATIONAL news. A year later Dunne and McD reach a detante' and sit down and nary a word about it when Dunne goes on WGR to promote and discuss the article? Christ...just a simple acknowledgement of the past by Jeremy and Joe would have been enough. But it was totally ignored.

I get it...Buffalo is a small town and all these press/media guys are long time colleagues and friends. But to just ignore the giant gorilla in the room by DiBiasi and White borders on "not doing your job" territory. But this is a larger issue with Buffalo Sports Media. Their work is very often more "fans" and "friends" than "professional press/media."

Maybe they didnt want to drudge up the negative past in a moment when Dunne has been gifted an interview with someone he tore apart last year?

I cant imagine Dunne would have many good answers for "how do you go from tearing someone down to a very positive piece like this?" without only saying "Need the clicks, bro".

Dunne is only on the WGR show to promote his blog and this article.

Just focus on the new article and keep moving forward I guess.

It's a hard business model to make work. I wish him luck.

I understand. Not expecting them to grill Dunne. But you cant ignore it either. Again, that Dunne piece was a major national story last year. A simple "So, how did it go with McD in the room, given the piece you wrote last year?" would have been enough.

The article last year wasn't exclusively negative. People criticizing it either haven't read it or are of the pompom-wearing contingent of this fanbase. And in many cases, both.

I appreciate Dunne's work because he actually puts some effort into his content. He isn't just a fan with press credentials who is more worried about job security than honest reporting.

Its gotten to the point with McDermott that I want them to win as much for him as I do for the fans and city.   He deserves some of the criticism he's taken but some of it is way way over the top.

I couldn't agree more. He has taken the Bills from the dumpster and turned them into one of the most respected organizations in sports. The vitriol he gets sometimes is just gross. He is a good coach, a great motivator, and a great culture builder. I have always defended him, and I really want him to get that ring.

He deserves criticism at times, for sure. But fans take it too far. They go well beyond criticism of his mistakes and into personal attacks and dragging him through the mud.

He probably only agreed to do it by refusing beforehand to answer any questions about his hit piece or tension between him and McDermott. They always discuss interview questions beforehand.
