Our 3rd down defense has been horrendous all year. We are laying way to far off the WRs and the zone was figured out in 2018. This defense has been the reason we haven’t won a Super Bowl yet and is why we have lost every playoff game after Jacksonville. McDermott needs to swallow his pride and change this thing up right now because you never know when we will be back. We have the best player in the NFL at the most important position in sports. It’s time for this coach and his defense to pull its weight. At the very least to not sink us.

It’s completely unfair for this team to just hope for the offense to score on every drive. It’s not sustainable. In order to play the complementary football we preach, the defense needs to step up. And not just a little. A ton. You can’t just rely on turnovers. You need to do what the good defenses do and make real stops. Not 12 play FG drives that eat clock and end up inside our 10. Not crazy extended 3rd and long conversations. Just real stops. This defense owes us 1. A run. They owe us a post season of good play that gives our all world QB a chance. The excuses are over. We are healthy. Enough writing off seasons. This is when the lights come on for real. No margin for error. We are the best team in the league and the “happy to be there” left years ago. It’s time to finish one. This coach and this defense need to elevate. They absolutely owe that to this team and the fans.

I mean, it's the playoffs.  Do we expect to be playing a bad team where we love the matchup?

Ya, but, I was hoping for an easy win before the Ravens and Chiefs .

Now I have to be stressed 4 more times instead of 3

Marvin Lewis was 0-7 in the playoffs.

The Bills are not going to fire McDermott for losing to the top 2-3 teams in the NFL. That’s just ridiculous.

If he starts losing Wild card games or missing the playoffs then the fire McDermott conversation will begin.

Marvin Lewis didn't have Josh Allen. With his defensive resume he probably already has a championship with Allen. It's Marvin Lewis vibes regardless...

You're being silly. If you want a specific example it is Marty schottenheimer right now.

Even Dan Reeves still got to multiple super bowls with Elway

Hopefully Russ isn’t an idiot this time round.

Hope so. Maybe they sprinkle in Fields a few plays this week as a wrinkle to stress the defense from a running perspective.

Im just asking for whatever is slightly below avg for the past ten super bowl winning defensive points against in the playoffs. So like a fg worse.

I don't think that's asking much

So 3 points on avg worse than the 22 chiefs defense in points against in the playoffs

Whatever that is.

I’m asking for what it takes to win. Not being on skates against any competent QB. Zero pressure, all day to find wide open guys on 3rd down and WRs with 6 yards of cushion on 3rd and 2. I want to see defense. Not whatever this fall back pray for FGs and turnovers passive aggressive BS we play. Go play defense. Dictate. Don’t be playing to not lose. Go win. If our defensive scheme had half the balls our offense always does, we’d be dangerous

I agree. Play to win.

The big question is whether the Bills are "locked in" and focused.

And the players need help getting to that state, will the coaches be able to inspire them?

It's easier to pump up the team when they're the underdog.  You get the "no one believes in us but WE KNOW!  WE ALL WE GOT!  WE ALL WE NEED!"  "They're looking past us!  WE'LL SHOW THEM!" and so forth.

Buffalo vs Everyone!

Well, now we're the favorites.  And we saw in LA, that if the DL doesn't "bring the intensity", our D can be put on skates.

We'll see.

Have to imagine/hope playoffs Bills are like the 1st quarter Detroit v Buffalo Bills AND/OR the regular season Kansas City v Buffalo Bills. Really hope they have been sandbagging down the stretch, and that their approaches to, and performances against, the two 15-win teams they played this season, are the best indicators of how they will handle the playoffs.

Denver Broncs has a nice defense. They really do. Let's not under estimate them on that end.

However, their QB Bo Nix is a rook. He doesn't know how to win.

In the end, we should beat them.

True, objectively, but we cannot ignore Payton's ability to attack specific defenses. The gameplan his offense executed last week against KC backups actually looked like something the Bills have trouble with: an offense attacking horizontally with motion and misdirection and play-action and screens and a mobile QB. How well our DEs and CBs set the edges and don't take the bait inside will be huge on Sunday IMHO.

I agree with you, but it also has to be recalled that the announcers were sort of yukking it up about how vanilla and un-specific Spagnuolo's defense was against Denver.  Payton can attack specific defenses, but McDermott also does have a good track record of attacking and confusing rookie QBs.

EDIT: I do think it should be pointed out that Denver's QB coach is Davis Webb.  He knows Josh Allen well.

100%. The concern would be that Payton's offense is able to stay on schedule often enough that they avoid Nix having to drop back and execute full-field reads in obvious passing situations. If they use their QB's athleticism in conjunction with eye candy and misdirection and whatnot, they could have some success. Luckily, their running game has not proven to be dangerous or even terribly productive.

So, reading this thread, the vibe I'm getting is "Bills suck, Broncos rule!"

People get nervous when they’re playing a team with ‘nothing to lose’ because they think all the pressure is on their team but the broncos don’t really have nothing to lose.  They’re always gonna come in to the playoffs as a low seeded wildcard playing in the afc west so the ‘we’re just happy to be here’ narrative doesn’t make any sense for them.

Their strength is kind of in the wrong spot as far as matching up with the bills goes imo.  Surtain is a beast and they’ve got a good pass rush but the bills oline is good and Josh is mobile and should have a few real good wr/db matchups.

broncos d gave up 30+ in three must win games to close out the season and likely would’ve given up 30+ in 4 out of their last 5 games and missed the playoffs if kc played starters.  Seems like that defense got figured out as the season went on but Anthony Richardson is straight up awful so he had a bad game against them lol

I thought we were scared and didn't want to play Cincinnati, now it's Denver...... PLEASE!!!! you have to play someone, it's the playoffs. If the Bills play their game they will win, they've proven to be the better team.

No.  It's still the Bengals.  Broncos are 1-6 against teams with winning records.  Only beating the Bucs and I discounted the KC backup game.  They're a very good defense (big test for our o-line) but have struggled against elite offenses which I'd like to think we are.  They're not great at running the ball or attacking the middle of the field which helps us.  Bo Nix is better than your typical rookie and he will hurt you with his legs but it's still his first playoff game in a hostile environment.

Two weeks ago I said my preferred WC teams in order were Colts, Fish, Broncos.....................................and way down the list............Bengals.  I think the Broncos have enough to beat us but it will only be because we had a bad day.

Strength of schedule is one thing, but I thought the Broncos had a dismal record against winning or playoff teams?

They do.

Been saying it for a while now... this defense lives off turnovers. Without them even the worst teams would give us a shootout. Can't rely on having turnovers every game. Especially against the best teams.
