Now Aaron Quinn and cover 1 are trying to lower expectations and " it's okay guys, it's not a failure if we don't win the super bowl"

This is just weird Marvin Lewis vibes

It's okay to hold the organization accountable and be honest. It's unacceptable having Josh Allen and not going to multiple super bowls.

We can also enjoy the success and teams winning pedigree. Not mutually exclusive.

It's not acceptable to keep getting bounced. Again big Ben 3 super bowl appearances in his first 7 Years. Allen is in year 7

Burrow year 2, super bowl appearance

Mahomes year 2 starting, super bowl appearance

Mcnabb, year 5 super bowl appearance

Staubach multiple super bowls

Stabler year 5 super bowl appearance

Marino year 2 super bowl appearance, year 3 AFC championship appearance

Eli 2 super bowl appearances in first 8 years

Young year first 4 years super bowl appearance

Brady duh

Hurts and Stafford super bowl appearances

Like this is not acceptable if McDermott dumps all over himself. It's a terrible terrible sign

Elway 3 super bowl appearances in his first 7 Years

Guess it sucks to have space bar problems

Marvin Lewis was 0-7 in the playoffs.

The Bills are not going to fire McDermott for losing to the top 2-3 teams in the NFL. That’s just ridiculous.

If he starts losing Wild card games or missing the playoffs then the fire McDermott conversation will begin.

Yeah, people that make the Marvin Lewis comparison, I don't understand. McDermott is already better than Marvin ever was.

Marty Schottenheimer would be a better comparison.

He wouldn't be that either. Schottenheimer had a 5-13 playoff record in 18 playoff games. McDermott is Andy Reid in Philly minus his one Super Bowl appearance

Completely agree.

The Defense is healthy for the first time going into the Playoffs.  That's always been the excuse, right?   Somewhat valid too.. but now what's it going to be if they let us down?  Just not good enough?

They Paid Oliver, they're going to pay Rousseau, they'll want to pay Bernard, they'll probably pay Benford, they paid Johnson, they traded for Douglas.

They drafted a DT in RD3, drafted a Safety in RD2, drafted another LB in RD3 two years ago.

I'm not saying this is some elite Defense.  I am saying they are healthy, and should have enough for a Defensive minded HC to finally show us why it makes sense to have him leading this team when it matters.

100%

For better or worse, this defensive roster is the lineup McBeane have personally built and at “full” health. If it can’t perform, there’s no good reason for it. Either they’ve spent eight years assembling the wrong talent or they’ve adhered too stubbornly to the wrong scheme.

I do think having a first year play caller will be something of the narrative if the defense lays an egg again this postseason — and that’s got some merit to it, obviously. So does being strapped with cap difficulties this offseason.

But again, that’s all on McDermott (and Beane) as well.

Didn't Reid go to the NFCCG 4 times with Philly?

Dick had to be the most boring guy in the NFL.

I’ve heard McDermott use it too. Waiting for him to use the ol’ “took the sails out of our wind”.

Hank Bullough “we’ll, that’s just spilled milk over the dam”

On Napoleon Macallum draft potential “well, theres that Bonaparte guy at Navy. He’s a solid RB”

5 times. But the fact is, McDermott has consistently gotten to the Divisional round. So, while Reid made it one game farther at times, their paths were pretty much Identical

Philly eventually moved on from Reid. I am not saying McDermott's job is in danger yet but at some point, he will have to be held accountable for the playoff failures if they continue going forward.

Wait, what? Reid went to FIVE championship games and you think that’s equivalent to McD? Really?

He was there for 14 years, though. I have always been an advocate of not firing him until he loses the locker room. Plus, I don't think Pegula will ever make that happen any time soon

This is a better comp, but I’m not sure it’s a perfect one for McD. He’s got a superior QB to McNabb in Josh Allen. Sean’s situation may be unique. He could end up more of a Tony Dungy.

The consistency is what I'm talking about. McDermott has been good at getting to the playoffs and winning at least one playoff game. Which is the same that Reid did a lot of those times in Philly. Considering, he had a first round bye in some of those seasons, his first game would be the divisional round and then lose the championship. For McDermott it's been winning the Wild Card and losing the divisional

Seems like a stretch.

It’ll happen if the Bills start going backwards. Which I thought they would go backwards at 6-6 last year and again this year.

These things tend to take care of themselves. He will either take the Bills further in the playoffs or start to regress.
