Seems like a fall guy for Stefanski and Andrew Berry Some of both? I do think the problems with the Browns start above Dorsey's level so in that sense, he's a "fall guy" I'm pretty sure that Ken Dorsey was a main dish(ers) for Ty Dunne's "hit piece" on McDermott, with a possible side serving of Daboll. The reason I think this is partly the timing (the article came out during the bye week, 2 games after Dorsey got fired) and partly because of something John Wawrow tweeted characterizing the article as "former employee has issues with former boss" and something like "that's why a number of us are gonna sit this one out". I think the results Joe Brady achieved the rest of 2023 and in 2024, plus Dorsey's offense with the Browns, say that Dorsey was not a "fall guy" here, and so there may be something legit in the firing in that he failed to maximize the offense given the players he had to work with. 3 1 Quote

Alphadawg7 Posted Sunday at 08:47 PM Posted Sunday at 08:47 PM What excuses are the Dorsey defenders going to make this time? Still can’t believe some people over the offseason were trying to claim Dorsey firing was a mistake (even calling his firing just a scapegoat by McD) and the offense was better with Dorsey than Brady 😂 4 1 Quote

Utah John Posted Monday at 03:56 AM Posted Monday at 03:56 AM Dorsey's biggest problem with the Bills was Diggs, and the perceived need to keep Diggs happy. Once that got fixed by Brady, the entire Bills office and Josh Allen in particular exploded in capability and production. The other thing working in Brady's advantage is Kromer, making the O line into a bulging beastly thing. Plus Spencer Brown finally figured it all out and became a dominant force. Should Dorsey have ignored Diggs earlier? That would have taken a lot more cojones than Dorsey ever showed. At the point Dorsey was fired, the Bills season was wallowing in mediocrity, and I think McD figured they had nothing to lose by moving away from leaning on Diggs. 1 Quote

At the point Dorsey was fired, the Bills season was wallowing in mediocrity, and I think McD figured they had nothing to lose by moving away from leaning on Diggs. Our turnovers went down and our scoring went up but Josh didn't personally experience an explosion in production under Brady. His yards per game went down. I think his passing TDs went down too. I'm not sure Dorsey was fixated on keeping Diggs happy. He may have seen Diggs as our best receiver and thus wanted to feed him the ball. In any case, Brady is putting more points on the board and the offense is harder to defend because its not all about one connection: Allen to Diggs. So I'm just nitpicking when I agree with your general point. 1 Quote

Mister Defense Posted Monday at 01:43 PM Posted Monday at 01:43 PM 19 hours ago, VaMilBill said: Disagree big time. Last year our offense was basically Allen going out there and making magic happen. There was no rhythm, run game was weak besides Josh’s scrambles, and Josh and his receivers were constantly on different pages. his scheme did not work well with our personnel. You sum up some of his many fundamental weaknesses well. Add in: almost no apparent connection between the running and passing game, very poor use of motion, often for the sake of motion only. Etcetera etcetera. But I think that was his scheme; see bold above. I laughed when I heard that the Browns had made him the OC soon after I had said he may never get an opportunity to be an OC again. I then predicted on here, like last year with the Bills, that he would be fired by Thanksgiving, so I was off there in the timing. With proper training, and extensive supervision, dorsey could make a great sideline Gatorade boy. 1 Quote

TheFunPolice Posted Monday at 02:52 PM Posted Monday at 02:52 PM (edited) The Browns had to stick with their HC because of Watson. They literally cannot get out of the Watson deal for 2 more seasons, and Stefanski is willing to lose the locker room to play the guy and please ownership by taking the flak for it. Someone had to pay, cause "we have high standards!" and stuff, but no new HC going in there was going to want anything to do with being saddled with Watson. So they are stuck with the HC and the QB for 1-2 more seasons. And I love it! For one thing the Browns were once one of those potentially dangerous AFC teams, and this takes them off the board for a couple more seasons. Great defense, strong running game, some weapons on offense... All useless as long as Watson is there. Also, this is proof Karma exists. After the way the Browns structured that contract and gave the league's first totally guaranteed contract to a guy like Watson, this is exactly what they deserve. It's Sabres levels of misery around there right now. Edited Monday at 02:55 PM by TheFunPolice Quote
