Fair enough breakdown there.

One other interesting thing I just thought of with Pederson. He played with Favre for a long time which has been a fairly common Allen comp.

I gotta wonder if the some of the shine is beginning to dim on Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel and his QB Tua Tugboatinjured. Granted they were 11-6 last season. However Miami owner Stephen Ross is another wackadoodle like the NY Jets owner Johnson as he picked Tua over Justin Herbert. Makes me think some changes might be coming to Miami too.

OC is very different from HC.

So Pederson is so unlucky that 2 different OCs on 2 different teams coaching 2 different 1st round QBs (under his leadership) watched their franchise QBs careers slide? He couldn’t (as HC, not OC) see it happen I guess.

wow that’s tough!  He really needs to speak up next time

Since the Bills seem to prefer hiring internally, it'll be someone already on the team.

Probably a random positional coach.

But the Bills should just pay Brady whatever he wants & promise him the HC position if McDermott blows it & gets fired.

This is the best option.

We would have an offensive HC and need not worry about different OC's every season. Plus, the organization is familiar with him.

My big (and only) kick back is that while Brady seems to be a blooming OC and play caller, being the HC/CEO is a totally different job that requires a totally different skill set. I’m not confident hes been around long enough to develop a leadership skill set strong enough to be in charge of 50+ elite athletes, another 50+ support staff, and a billionaire boss.

For every Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay there are dozens of Wade Philips, Leslie Fraziers, etc.

Daboll and McDermott are not in good terms. It was evident in the post-game handshake last season.

Ben Johnson is coming here only if he is a replacement for McDermott.

Go Bills !!!

I understand that. I wasn’t suggesting they were. It was a hypothetical about the rumors being false. we’ve seen stories where the opposite narrative comes to fruition many times in sports before.

We could do a lot worse than Pederson. I actually like that thought as he could stick around for awhile.

His playcalling looks a bit outdated to me. Jaguars have been bottom 3 in the league in terms of using motion this season. It gives me slight Dorsey vibes. Looks like an offense that Tom Moore and Peyton Manning might have run in 2006 and that ***** just doesn't fly now unless you have truly dominant weapons outside. I want someone who is going to use shifts and pre-snap motions to create leverage advantages the way Brady does. Because Josh has excelled with those schematic advantages. I fear Pederson would end up putting everything back on Josh and taking away those quick button throws.

The year before Pederson, Jacksonville ranked 32nd in points. His first year they ranked 7th. Eagles went from 20th to 9th to 1st.

He hasn't been able to maintain a high level of success after that initial surge. He's not HC material. He doesn't have the personality for it. But he checks a lot of boxes. Worked with some great minds, has a had a lot of success in the league, and won't be poached immediately.

I agree that the personality thing should matter less as an OC (although I am not sure the Bills see it like that, they want people who fit their culture) and he definitely isn't gonna be poached. His Head Coaching days are over. That is for certain.

My concern is his offense. He was on the cutting edge 9 years ago when the Eagles hired him with all the RPO stuff. But the league moves so fast, especially on offense, and all the creative minds now are winning with motion and leverage and I am just not sure he has kept up. The Jags offense looked a lot like the chuck and duck mess ours had descended into in the middle of 2023 for much of this season. And we don't have Brian Thomas Jnr to bail the playcalling out.

Can he co-exist with McDermott as his HC?

Indiana’s OC Mike Shanahan.

I think this will eb a good bet,...especially considering that he was in McDermott's staff last year or the year before

Yea I am not sure Brady is ready yet either. I do think he will get interviews but I expect him to be quite circumspect about what he'd take. I think he knows he jumped at the Carolina OC job without really thinking it through and he won't want to make that mistake at HC level because if you do it's harder to get a do over. Being a Head Coach is way more than Xs and Os.

I don't put him in the Daboll camp where the personality was more of a question. I think Brady has the personality for it. Just not sure he has the experience. And when you are coordinating Josh Allen there is no need to rush. You are going to be in the mix every year. If none of the jobs thid year look and feel right (and I think it is a bad market personally) then you can wait a year.

Having the Nerd run our offense I don't think would be bad.

How about Aaron Kramer?

On January 16, 2013, Kromer was announced as the new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Chicago Bears. He joined Marc Trestman's initial coaching staff, after working with Trestman in Oakland.[4] In his first year, the Bears offense had the second-best scoring offense in the league with 445 points, behind the Denver Broncos, while finishing fifth with 4281 passing yards.[5] The offense also broke team records in total yards (6,109), passing yards (4,450), passing touchdowns (32) and first downs (344).[6] On February 12, 2014, offensive line assistant Pat Meyer was named offensive line coach while Kromer, who served as offensive coordinator and line coach in 2013, remained the offensive coordinator and continued to be involved in all aspects of the offense, including the line with an increased role with the passing game.[7]

Trestman called the plays IIRC. No to first time playcallers.

As long as the Bills have a defensive minded head coach in Sean McDermott they will always face the prospect of losing their OC to other HC  opportunities. The result is constant changes in the offensive play calling and scheme. That's not the best way to handle the remainder of Josh Allens's career with the Bills. In the blink of an eye it will be over and it will be a crime if the Bills and Allen fail to win it all at least 1 time.

The best option right now is to move McDermott upstairs to the front office w/Beane, promote Brady to Bills HC, keep his system, hire an OC to function like Reid has in KC, and bring on a strong and experienced DC to handle that side of the ball.

This might be the best long term option.
