I understood it.

But then, I haven't taken my meds yet today, either. Guess it's a sign I should...

From the people who brought you:

"We'll take another 9/11 or worse because playing loud Christina Aguilara music and seeing what bomb making books the illegal Saudi guy checked out of the library are very, very bad things."

"And then, we'll blame it all on the Bush gang, because hey - it's their job to counter terror while everyone gets to do exactly as they please and demand things be a certain way when we have no idea on earth what we are talking about".

We'll get it done. I'm going to be spending a lot more time downtown. Maybe I should bring a friend?

Best: James Polk- He kept his campaign promises regarding Manifest Destiny by accepting Texas (actually happened he took office) into the union, and expanded the country to the west coast by negotiation with the Brits for Oregon and by war with Mexico to gain the southwest.

He did all of that in one term and got the heck out of there.

Lincoln- Eliminating slavery was a truly noble cause, and it is a shame the founding fathers weren't able to come up with some way of phasing it out. He had the fortitude to do what they failed to do.

Truman (and Reagan, for that matter)- He did what was necessary to end the war, and saved lives in doing it.

Worst:

Wilson, for the income tax.

FDR, for Social Security and the rest of the Raw Deal. Also for being so close to the Rosenbergs.

LBJ- for not pulling out of Vietnam, a country with zero strategic value, Welfare, Medicare, etc...

Clinton- A modern day Rosenberg.

Lincoln- who did more to centralize government than Wilson and FDR combined.

*Ramifications of their policies still have yet to be fully felt/understood, but my guess is 100 years from now my predictions will stand up

Not wanting to bring a premature end to your woody for Reagan, but let's try to be a little more realistic about a few things.  There were not jobs galore once  Reagan took over.  That took time.  Same with interest rates.  If the economy hadn't started to perk up towards the middle to end of his first term, he could have very well been a one termer.

Yes, my choice of words did imply that the economic recovery was instant. You are right, it did take a couple of years.

What are your views as to the presidencies of Reagan and Carter?

I'd take that bet, except without stem cell funding I doubt we'll live that long. But if we do and you're right, I'll buy you a shot and a beer in Mecca with money from my personal savings account. If you're wrong, you can buy me a glass of non-toxic water in Reaganville, C.S.A. (the Christian States of America).

:(

By the way, last year the US government spend $500 million dollars on stem cell research. That's more than the rest of the world combined.

Actually, with all Clinton did to aid the Chinese in their quest for technology, I doubt we'll live that long after the invasion, unless we pledge our undying love to Mao and learn to speak Mandarin...but sure, sounds like a bet.

They speak cantonese in the south. They are going to get us in the pocketbook, anyway.

And if it weren't for World War I and World War II, Germany had a pretty good century.

Nazi's

Nixon Bad!

Watergate!

Comparing something to Nazis/Soviets is a sure sign of a weak argument.

the expression I thought, was somewhat common, used in situations when great exceptions are made.
