LewPort71 Posted Wednesday at 02:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:31 PM On New Year's Eve our family would play a marathon Monopoly game with parents getting champagne and my sister and I getting 'sparkling grape juice' We sneaked some of the good stuff into our glasses when the time was right. The Roberto Clemente tragedy hit home as he was my favorite player. 1 Quote

Breaking the drought and celebrating well into the evening. Other than that I haven't been out on NYE since college. Amateur night. I'd rather spend a random Tuesday with the hard chargers at the neighborhood gin mill. That was a great evening, up to until....no memory. Face stuck to a bloody pillow the next morn. 1Jan2018 was my first visit to AA. I was quite the mess. Edited Wednesday at 04:16 PM by BUFFALOKIE Quote

We lost our son to fentanyl the next day, Jan 2, 2018. Addiction is a B word. A rash of deaths in Nashville that New Year. 4 Quote

Though, Life, Stratego and a few other of the "advanced games" never got far. 1 Quote

Our parents would bring out the sleeper sofa mattress in the living room and let us stay up late watching Casey Kasem's Nick at Nite New Year's Eve countdown..does anybody remember that!? Honestly I probably look back at those times much fonder than when I was at the age where I could go out to parties and bars for NYE Happy New Year's to all of the Off the Wall posters on here. May 2025 bring everybody many blessings..and maybe a Lombardi trophy to Western New York 3 1 Quote
frostbitmic Posted Wednesday at 08:28 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:28 PM In our 20's and early 30's we always had great parties ... then kids happened and 30 years later my wife and I eat some appetizers, pop a bottle of bubbly as the ball drops and are in bed by 1. 1 Quote
Mike in Horseheads Posted Wednesday at 10:54 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:54 PM When I was 18 or so one of my friends puked in the guy that was driving bowling bag in the back seat of his car! we laughed about that for years Quote

I am sure every day is tough and today is a little tougher as the anniversary of the tragedy. I can’t imagine the journey you’ve had but I warn my kids all the time about the dangers, and this is one reason why because I saw your personal experience. 1 1 Quote
Tuco Posted Thursday at 06:24 PM Posted Thursday at 06:24 PM New Year's Day, 1989. The first ever playoff game at Rich Stadium. The Bills beat the Houston Oilers 17-10. It was cold - in the 20s. And I had been at a house party the night before, so we were all low on sleep. After all, we were still in our 20s. But we recovered easier back then, and we won and went on to the conference championship that year, so it was a pretty good memory. I still have the commemorative red, white and blue pom pom they gave us when we entered the gate. And probably the ticket stub. 1 Quote

Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted Thursday at 11:27 PM Posted Thursday at 11:27 PM (edited) The last New Year's Eve that my 'Bride the First' saw was December, 2004. Her father lived in our neighbourhood, and would often stop by to visit when collecting his mail. I kept a rye whiskey in the cupboard, and offered him a triple rye and ginger. His first wife had died in 1989, and his second wife was a nervous, trying woman, so I was glad to offer a few minutes of company with family, and a respite from the demands of his household. Once finished with the drink, he thanked us, wished us a happy new year, and drove the short distance home. After a few minutes, I donned a pair of shoes, and headed out the door. "Where are you going?", my sweet baboo asked. "Just to walk up the road, to see if Pops ended up in a ditch," says I. That might have been the last time I saw her really laugh and smile. A fifteen year walk with cancer ended with her passing the following April. It's still a good memory for me, that final New Year's Eve. Edited Thursday at 11:28 PM by Ridgewaycynic2013 Quote

I wholeheartedly agree with that, even in my younger years when going out was the rage I remember having a bunch of duds for nights out on NYE. I'm so glad I am at an age where it is socially acceptable to stay home and be asleep on the couch before the ball drops. Just curious if anybody has any really awesome memories or stories from New Year's I grew up in Warrnambool and for NY it was our Summer holidays. Was always a blast. When too young we’d be at mate’s homes watching movies. When older, the foreshore is a party place. I moved to the city and worked in nightclubs and NY was always fun then too. Then marriage and kids and it wasn’t a thing. Divorced and re-partnered and we had a great time down at Cape Paterson this year. Edited Friday at 02:09 AM by Shamrock 1 Quote
