BillsPride12 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I think the general consensus is this is the most overrated holiday of the year. I wholeheartedly agree with that, even in my younger years when going out was the rage I remember having a bunch of duds for nights out on NYE. I'm so glad I am at an age where it is socially acceptable to stay home and be asleep on the couch before the ball drops. Just curious if anybody has any really awesome memories or stories from New Year's 1 Quote
YoloinOhio Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) The only one I have is the Bills breaking the drought in 2017. i don’t go out anymore on nye, rather have a nice dinner, good drinks, watch the cfb playoff and maybe stay up long enough to see the ball drop. but my son is 18 all excited to go to a couple parties some kids at school are having. I told him he’s not allowed to drive but he can go. He and his buddies have been highly anticipating this night and I will not be surprised if he’s disappointed Edited December 31, 2024 by YoloinOhio 5 1 Quote
nemhoff Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 nope, most overrated holiday of them all 1 Quote
boyst Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Hell no. It is the worst. I used to have a part time job delivering Pizza's. NE was always so busy but there were good tips. Drunk people would forget their address so you'd show up to the wrong place, business or laboratory. You would watch the ball drops from your car delivering or if you're lucky be somewhere to see it drop like I was one year. Very cool experience, but Mr Pannuci was probably upset with me. I ended up getting trapped in this freezer device for quite some time. When I was let out it was long time later and everyone I knew was gone, including my dog seymour. 1 2 Quote

BADOLBILZ Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Got married on NYE. It was a great party. Underrated marriage/reception date. My older sister was born on a NYE. Agree with the OP, most New Year's party's suck. 1 Quote

Looking forward to a lowkey night in this year Quote
Mr Info Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 We enjoy NYE. Great restaurant/bar within walking distance from our house that always has a good band and open an hour later. Stumble home afterward. 1 Quote
LeviF Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Yeah NYE 2017 is the best one. Breaking the drought and celebrating well into the evening. Other than that I haven't been out on NYE since college. Amateur night. I'd rather spend a random Tuesday with the hard chargers at the neighborhood gin mill. May Day 10 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 NYE 1998, my friend who was going to UB had an epic party. His housemates were all out of town and all of us were back home from college. An all-timer. Other than that, I agree. The best times now are just getting together with a few other couples with kids and tying one on. Or just staying home is fine. Quote
Augie Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 My father was a germ freak. We could never go on picnics or eat outside because he didn’t want flies landing on his food. The adults got drunk one year and pointed out that there are no flies on New Year’s Day, and a tradition began. For several years a bunch of families would show up on NY Day at a NY state park with snowmobiles, Bloody Mary’s and a nice breakfast to grill. Good times. My wife’s mother and uncle were with us one year in Sarasota. My wife signed us up for some shindig at the Opera House. I had had ZERO alcohol the entire day so I wasn’t too worried when we hit a giant DUI checkpoint 1/4 mile from our house. He asked me where I was going. Home. What’s your address. I told him. He said I could go and I mentioned that that was pretty easy. He pointed to an appliance store parking lot FULL of cars, dozens of them, and said “those people couldn’t do what you just did.” I see no need to be on the road tonight. My mother used to call this Amateur Night. 1 Quote
Johnny Hammersticks Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Largely overrated holiday, but I went to NYC for New Year’s one time in my mid twenties and made out with an Indian chick. So I got that going for me. I guess that was one of the great things about NYE when I was young and single. Women tended to be more uninhibited sexually for some reason. Quote

muppy Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 quite the opposite actually. I was stood up once by a guy I met through a mutual friend.. He lived on a sail boat and he was dashing in a tall dark and handsome kind of way. I wasn't so much crushed as I was mad. All dressed and no place to go. I never heard a single word nor saw him again. Maybe he was a fugitive and was arrested and incarcerated. It makes some sense. Hey I dodged a bullet 🙂 either way HIS LOSS lol we are having a nice dinner tonite and no other festivities. I think a good New Years eve party can be fun but I don't especially like crowds anyway so... Quote
