Beck Water Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) I thought this was pretty freakin' fascinating - while Belicheck was talking McAfee and Co seemed transfixed as well! Edited December 30, 2024 by Beck Water 1 3 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I’ve only listened to the first few minutes, but BB’s rationale makes sense. Now I don’t know if he brings up in 13 Tom had 13 years of experience and a HC ought to trust him by that time, vs. a rookie or someone with less than 4 years in the NFL. As a side note, I may have despised that guy as the Cheats HC, but he has been great in the booth and on podcasts. 1 Quote
Man with No Name Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 he's just a really good teacher. basic gist is that there's not just one right way to do it, but you need to have a system in those situations. And that system needs to be clear between HC, OC, QB, and game management guy (if there is one). Said they talked about situational stuff on Saturdays. A lot of times it would come from something that happened in another game from the weekend. Like they would have talked about what happened with Caleb Williams & the BEars on Thanksgiving. What would WE do in that situation? There are interesting plays that come up every weekend to use as teachable moments. 2 Quote
Charles Romes Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Causing Pete Carrol to panic in the Super Bowl by letting the clock run is some of the best coaching I’ve ever seen. 2 Quote

McDermott ALWAYS calls a timeout in similar situations to make sure the defense is just right, which of course also takes all the pressure and need to rush away from the offense, allows them to regroup, and gives them time to plan out their own strategy. It rarely works in his favor, yet he continues to do it. 3 1 3 Quote

It happened in the Cincinnati/Denver game multiple times 1 Quote
Chaos Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 During a Bills game listening to Tom Brady talk about the difference between 6 seconds on the clock and 7 seconds made it pretty clear there are different levels of clock management skill. Not a figment of fan’s imagination 1 3 1 Quote

Thanks for posting this, definitely a great approach by BB. This is the kind of thing McDermott should be doing if he's not already. He's established the culture now perfect and plan details. For exame, does he have a better plan to defend the hail Mary? Quote
