Patriots QB Drake Maye might not play in Week 18 against the Bills

"The Patriots have seen enough to know that Drake Maye is their quarterback for the foreseeable future, but he may not be their quarterback for the final game of the 2024 season. 

Head coach Jerod Mayo said at a Monday press conference, via a transcript from the team, that “everything is in consideration” when asked if the team has given any thought to sitting Maye against the Bills in Week 18. Maye was briefly knocked out of Saturday’s loss to the Chargers to be evaluated for a head injury and avoiding any chance of injury that impacted his preparation for the 2025 season would be reason for New England to sit him out."

 

A loss to the Bills would guarantee them the first pick in the upcoming draft.

The Bills need to play Mike White at QB, no sense in getting our #2 injured in a meaningless game.

Sounds like an excuse to bench him so they can throw the game for obvious reasons. Totally understand them doing it. Why risk his health for a meaningless game that would actually hurt the franchise if they win? My only problem is when they portray they are doing everything in their power to win this game.

That would be a stupid move. Young QBs need playing time, and a meaningless game for both teams is a perfect scenario to get him valuable experience.

Why give up the first pick in the draft for some plays in a preseason game ?

I just dont know if we can waste one of the two call ups on Mike White.  I would rather be able to sit someone like Torrence vs sitting Mitch.

I can see a 0-0 F OT score ... Both teams fumble the ball away constantly, most of the game will be played between the 40's

 

Fumbles, missed FG's, shanked punts, shoddy tackling, this game will have it all. Neither team will want the W and do everything in their power to lose the game.

 

I could see both teams Safety themselves all day.

The Bills will try to win just with their backups. NE doesn't want the win for the obvious reason.

This is going to be such a bizarre game.  I can guarantee that NE executives and ownership want to lose this game and hold on to that #1 overall pick to use it as they please. 

 

Meanwhile the Bills better have Allen and any other important starter in track suits on the sidelines.  If they don't they are idiots.  To hell with a consecutive games streak no one cares.

 

So it will be the battle of backups and if the Bills lose that will hurt New England.

The Bills can only take so many guys out. I’d make Jimbo, Kincaid, Shakir, Ed, Groot , TB & Benford inactive. JA17 can start and play the first quarter with zero plays called putting him in harms way. Bills can only call two guys up from PS and one has to be Mike White. Maybe Davidson as the other? Hopefully Gilliam should get about 10 carries.
