The game passed Ron Rivera by, and I don't take Rex Ryan's interest seriously. He hasn't done a damn thing besides broadcasting since he was let go by the Bills. If these older former head coaches have legitimate interest in returning to coaching, they need to take HC jobs in college or the UFL to stay in the pipeline. Even then, your chances of getting back to the NFL are remote. If I were the Jets, I wouldn't look at OCs and DCs off the bat. They've tried that. The college to NFL pipeline has been awful. I'd be looking at coaches like Skip Holtz and Anthony Becht who have performed well in the UFL and have built a team of assistants. Skip Holtz has a great resume. I'd look at Mike Vrabel too. I mean coaches in their 60s have won 5 of the last 7 Superbowls so that's kind of debatable. 3 Quote
FLFan Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Two things are certain with this Jets offseason: 1. They will make the worst possible choices in GM and Coach and QB. 2. The national and local media will trumpet them as Super Bowl favorites, all problems fixed. My personal favorite choice is Rex Ryan but there are plenty of other bad alternatives to choose from. 1 2 Quote

It would be like when the Bears hired John Fox. Yeah he's a good coach and is steady, but what exactly are you building? Rivera would have made sense this year. Needed a leader who could manage lots of different personalities in a win now year Quote

I'd think they'd want to go for offense. Todd Monken and Kliff Kingsbury might be names to throw into the ring but guess it really depends who they name GM first. They don't need to zero in on an "offense or defense" guy. They need the best guy for them. That, to me is a 'culture setter'. Someone that can come in and reset the mentality much like McDermott did here in Buffalo. Quote

H2o Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Maybe the Jets will repeat history again. They hired Adam Gase after he had been fired in Miami. Maybe this time they hire Brian Flores to keep the cycle going. Quote

May Day 10 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Rivera is medium to low floor and low ceiling head coach. 13 minutes ago, BMWR100RT said: I love this. Terrible owner, a boiler plate of a media market, and a fan base who will be sick of the next coach by Labor Day Quote
Since1981 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hire Rexy, Rogers. NYC and ESPN will again predict AFCE champs until September. Pats QB is dangerously skilled. Quote

machine gun kelly Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I was going to crack off jokes, but in all seriousness the real problem like a few other teams is the owner. Jeff Bezos has expressed interest in buying the team, which the league would be drooling to get a N.Y. owner worth $237.5 bil. The only other NFL family with $ like that is the Walton family in Denver. Look what they did. Hire Sean Payton, one of the best coaches over the last 15 years, give him the freedom to make hard decisions like Russel Wilson, and watch a quick turnaround. Any of the top flight coaches with lots of experience like a Jim Harbaugh (another quick turnaround team) and decision making powers of a GM and assistants with solid compensation is the way out for the Jets. Now, I’d rather not that have that happen as we’d have competition in a few years, so a Wrex hire would be great. 1 Quote
