The Jets job has to be one of the least attractive jobs ever. They are going to struggle to find a quality candidate who is willing. They have a meddling owner, a history of failure, toxic media, a 41 year old QB, the longest playoff drought in sports, and they are in a division with a consistently dominant Bills team.

The perception a HC is bad is a media driven narrative. There is no fall from grace for them, they always find work afterwards, if they choose to. They’re often coveted by other HC’s or a network. A HC’s paycheck isn’t just a paycheck, it’s generational wealth.
 

Rest assured they don’t feel like tarnished losers.

Glenn has the Jets connection but do they really go for another defensive minded guy? I'd think they'd want to go for offense. Todd Monken and Kliff Kingsbury might be names to throw into the ring but guess it really depends who they name GM first.

Is Woody Johnson's son seriously named Brick?

I may be alone in this, but I don't think Ron Rivera would be the dumbest choice the Jets could make right now.  He's not sexy, but he seems to run a disciplined team and to be able to get the most out of some of his players.  He had Heinike looking like a servicable QB for example.

I love how he played essentially this same character in one of the all time great shows, Arrested Development.

They are mid draught level Bills in terms of job.  They need a culture change.  They will go re-re tread coach.  They will aim for Vrabel land Rex or Rivera.

Who is conducting these interviews? They were briefing "GM first, no matter what" two weeks ago. Suppose Rivera is a Rooney Rule qualifier. So that could be part of it.

Coaching is a young man's game.  The game passed Ron Rivera by, and I don't take Rex Ryan's interest seriously. He hasn't done a damn thing besides broadcasting since he was let go by the Bills.

 

If these older former head coaches have legitimate interest in returning to coaching, they need to take HC jobs in college or the UFL to stay in the pipeline.  Even then, your chances of getting back to the NFL are remote.     

 

If I were the Jets, I wouldn't look at OCs and DCs off the bat.   They've tried that.  The college to NFL pipeline has been awful.   

 

I'd be looking at coaches like Skip Holtz and Anthony Becht who have performed well in the UFL and have built a team of assistants.  Skip Holtz has a great resume.  I'd look at Mike Vrabel too.

Imagine if they had kept Darnold and instead of what they ended up doing, instead built a team around him.  He's no JA17 but watching him yesterday he's perfectly serviceable and even capable of a big play or two if he has the right talent around him

 

Here's what I hope happens:  Hire Neon Deion Sanders.  That would be the clown show we need and the Jets deserve
