But then the Bills play on a short week for the WC round, of course. After securing the 2nd best seed in the AFC. And the Ravens get an extra day of rest for their 3rd seeded WC game. It's a disadvantage for the Bills no matter what, I guess. (Really not super invested in this line of argument, other than the fact that it's "technically/pedantically correct.)

Eh, if the Broncos or Dolphins win the 7, they're both playing later in the day Sunday, so no real disadvantage there.

Sounds like rich people's problems which I'm fine with.  I think the Ravens having to play all their starters is a bigger benefactor to us than worrying about one day's extra rest.

Very fair.

Absolutely.  They will be preparing all week knowing Baltimore is going to win and that this is about the 5 seed and a reeling Houston team vs another trip to Baltimore.

Dolphins are going to beat the Jets and then Denver loses to KC I’m not sure I’ve entertained this scenario at all yet.

Absolutely.  The Chargers are playing the Raiders.  Steelers need to beat the Bengals.

They don't even have to play at the same time just switch the teams. Have the Steelers play first because they are chasing the Ravens. By having the Ravens play first, it no longer gives the Steelers any incentive outside of seeding to play their starters.

Even if they played at the same time I'm assuming the Steelers already know there's no way in hell the Ravens are losing to the DTR led Browns.

For sure.  If people are looking for conspiracies, I would offer the complete Lamar "love fest for MVP" that will be happening.  LOL.

Here’s hoping Winston is back 🤞

Just glad Netflix doesn't have the game with RG3 predicting the Jackson 5.  Lol.

In theory, they may have sat Lamar if they knew ahead of time the Steelers lost to the Bengals because that would lock up the 3 seed.  The more I go through this I don't think it matters at all as far as fairness goes.

They didn't prepare for the Patriots the first time they played so I don't see why they would this time with nothing on the line.

The Patriots also got a gift from the Giants...Now they control their own destiny to get the 1st overall pick.  They can parlay that into multiple blue-chip picks for building their roster...I don't see the Patriots wanting to win this game and lose that windfall of draft picks.

One can see them losing to the Dolphins, firing Mayo, then hiring an offensive guru like Ben Johnson to develop Maye whilst having mucho draft capital and cap space with which to load up the depth chart.

Exactly and that's why I expect Mayo to screw it up and win the game against our backups.

I know there has been an effort in recent years to have mutually meaningful games played in the same slot to prevent an early result from influencing another team's lineup/load management. But maybe the money on Saturday's bid came with certain flex stipulations?

The schedule for Week 18 is set. No flexing allowed on Saturday anyway.

NFL did Lamar and the Ravens a massive favor

Fact of the matter is the almighty dollar rules the league, and they will always choose that over fairness/competitive balance

If I'm McDermott, I'm using that to my advantage to fire my guys up just a bit more

Logically, I would have thought the story of the AFC play offs would make more sense, rather than randomly putting Browns-Ravens on Saturday night. As suggested yesterday, have Bengals-Steelers as the early game, followed by Jets-Dolphins, then Chiefs-Broncos on the Sunday. I suppose the risk would be the Bengals and Dolphins both losing, leaving Denver with nothing to play for. But if that happened they could have still promoted Browns-Ravens, as the Ravens would need to win to claim the North.

They have to play their starters because they put themselves in that position.  They get an extra day because it was handed to them.  See the difference?
