When the Patriots beat our backups next week they won’t have the first pick.

I think our backups can win that game. I’m kind of intrigued to see an entire game of Mitch. In case god forbid he had to come save a playoff game. We never let him pass. Let’s see a game of him where he has 20 passing attempts

I feel like this is pretty immaterial as the Giants need a QB and the Pats don't.

Even if the Pats don't need a QB, the top pick in the draft is worth a lot more in trade value.

I realize the Bills will be sitting a lot of starters next week, but the Pats might not be interested in winning.  Could be a very ugly game.

Agree 100 percent. Winning is meaningless to them, and losing is very valuable — quantifiably so.

If the Patriots end up with the #1 overall pick you better believe they are going to turn that into 3 high end picks and improve that O-Line quickly for Maye. Even the #2 overall pick will net 3 high end draft picks. Patriots may end up becoming a pain in the butt soon

Not that I’m a college football expert but from what I’ve seen of cam ward and sanders I don’t think they are particularly good picks anyway.  Feels like the classic they’ll get over drafted just because they play qb situation and it’s just as likely the giants could’ve just avoided themselves a mistake as a fireable offense

If the Patriots end up with the first pick, if I'm the Giants i'm def not trading up. Even if someone trades, I'm still getting either Sanders/Ward who seem to be the consensus top 2 at this point.

There is a lot of rumors that the Raiders would move up particularly for Sanders but they are way down in the draft. I get it would be a bounty but you also take yourself out of play for Travis Hunter and McMillan from Arizona who are the top playmakers at WR.  I think that might be too far for the Patriots but they do have a lot of needs.

The Patriots would def get some offers but I think they would prefer to drop to 3 or 4 to guarantee themselves the playmaker to pair with Maye in the future.

Drafting a QB this year with #1 pick will be an awful decision. It's a bad year to need a QB and have a high draft pick.

It's like the year we drafted Manuel. He was only picked to satiate the fans who wanted the Bills to pick a QB in the first. Major reach and set us back.

IMO, in this scenario it’s the HC’s job to make sure the team isn’t in a position to win because you can’t count on the players to do so. You have to make it impossible.

I don’t think a coach clearly losing on purpose is ever a good decision personally…probably pisses the current players off and at least you can show free agents that your team might be a decent landing spot the next season if you turn things around late

actually benefits the Giants as the rookie salary will be less (for 4 years)

True but to create a post stating the coach should be fired for winning the game is rather stupid regardless of the ramifications.  Even if the coach is trying to lose, the players want to win as some (like the coach) have no idea if they will even be playing in the NFL ever again.

The Bills fired Wrex Ryan for planning to start Tyrod in an effort to beat the Jets in the last game of the 2016 season.

Yeah, we need to lose next week.  If Pats get the #1 pick, they’re def going to take Travis Hunter which would be bad news

nah, no losing here.  those tanking days are gone,

The Giants’ victory today was a fireable offense for Daboll — totally selfish, and I mean that. It calls to mind the Jets beating the Rams in 2020, which caused them to lose Trevor Lawrence for Zach Wilson.

Are the Patriots a smarter organization than the Giants?

At first thought, I didn’t think it’s as big of a deal since NE already has Mays.  This will still ensure the Giants get the first pick at QB.

But given all the holes on the NE roster and the fact that they already have their QB in place, I wouldn’t be shocked to see them trade out for bounty of higher draft picks.

If I’m Mara and can’t select the QB I want, I’d be pissed at Daboll

Two of my best friends and another good friend are very knowledgeable Pats fans, and they are thrilled that this might happen. The Pats are sure to trade down and get a boatload of picks.

It’s called strategy.  Do we really want the Pats to get the next Justin Jefferson/Patrick Surtain II?

They have so many needs it’s probably the smart play.  The problem with draft picks is that you need to hit on them.  Aside from Drake Maye, the new administration had a pretty bad draft.

Pats don't look like much now - but Maye looks like he could be good, and a Herschel Walker kind of trade might vault them into contention.

You don't TRY to lose - but losing next week would be better long term.  Imo.
